1999 rl speedometer

I replaced the bulbs in my instrument cluster and the speedometer stopped working. Everything else works. I am positive I returned all of the screws back in their correct location. I searched this topic and read cautions about over tightening the screws. What damage is done when you over tighten the screws and how can it be repaired? Is it as simple as loosening the screws? THANKS.

Try loosening the screws. I know if you use the wrong screws it will break the copper wire coil on the motor, but I'm not sure if over-tightening would do the same. If loosening them doesn't work inspect the copper coil for breaks, if they are broken you'll have to replace them.

This question has been asked here before and many people have had this same problem. There is no fix to overtightened screws. You will have to get new parts or cluster, depending on if you broke all gauges for a pick a part type business.
