Hey All,
I picked up a 2002 RL w/Nav a couple weeks ago. I'm the 3rd owner. 2nd had it since 25K. It has 207K on it now. Exterior is a bit dinged up and scratched but the interior is perfect. The only major issue is the Nav system is not working. A Phillips screwdriver and 15 minutes took care of the other issues I found.



Mechanically it needs some work. Timing & balancer belts and brakes need replaced, and it has a broken front wheel stud (Had to be a front, of course. ).
I've driven it ~1000 miles commuting and it's an awesome car. Having driven nothing but Civics/Integras since the 80's, owning a Honda that actually has some torque is cool.
Looking to replace the stereo head unit with a DVD-MP3 unit. The OEM units are working fine, I just need more capacity than CD's provide.

just picked up a 2004 RL with 57000 miles in the dark blue
looks like new. Still sorting it out have not decided if I want the On Star or the XM radio operation.

 

I'll help you out with that one.

The onstar system on the RL is before the analog to digital conversion so it won't work.

Xm should work fine though.

I'm looking to buy a car like that for my wife. Would love to find one with 57K, but will settle on one with a little under or over 100K. We had a 97 but got tired of the bad gas mileage and about to need expensive tires and a timing belt. We can afford that now.

 

Can a college student afford an RL? Seriously, we had a 97 and got over 20mpg only once on a long trip, full tank. Now we think we can afford that because we won't be driving it a lot. How has yours been for repairs?

 

Looking for a car like that. We had a 97 RL and loved it, but got scared of the gas consumption, the expensive tires and timing belt coming up. Now think we can afford it. Tough to find one with under 100K, but a little over is OK if it had TB done. How has yours been?

 

Keeping an RL on the road really isn't that hard. I'm in college and work part time in retail. I've covered nearly everything for gas, insurance, and repairs. I've had it since 112k and its currently at 142k. I plan to hold on to it for quite a while.

Yeah, the only bad problem about this car is the MPG. I'm getting 16mpg combined; i get around 210 miles tank full.
Anyway, if you are getting p0170,p0171, and p0174 (get really bad mpg, idle fluctuation, bank 2 system is too lean). To clear all the codes, I installed a new OEM O2 sensor on the driver side. Hope that's helpful. BTW, if you have CEL please post here and how did you solved it.

Picked up a 1998 Acura RL last week, lady owner lived in an apartment, and had on street parking only... the radiator was cracked along the top and leaked coolant when warm. Also the check engine, ABS, and TCS lights are on.

It'll definitely be a little bit of work to get it back running, but I absolutely fell in love with the luxury and the way it drove.



I'm currently in the middle of doing the timing belts & radiator replacement, and took a bunch of photos while doing it. I'll make sure to start a thread on here with my steps to put it back together, I was a bit behind when I realized I should be taking photos of the dismantling.

Anyway here's where I'm at:

 

Great travel car, smooth ride. About 80k. Lousy mileage compared to old Maxima. Fortunately we don't do many miles.

Recently bought a 1998 RL premium with 157,500 miles on it.
Drives like butter. Wow, is the ride S M O O T H E!

Mine needed some immediate work on non-engine issues:
- passenger window motor
- rear view mirror replace
- steering wheel motors were both broken (tilt and in/out)

I was able to get parts cheap from a chop shop and budget labor done. In total, I'm in for $3 grand. So, we're happy with that.

Bought a $10 cassette/mini stereo adapter, so we can play music from our phones. Sound system is great. Cassette/.mp3s are better than I expected. Not bad.

The leather is in great condition. The seats are quite comfortable. Love the recallable driver's positioning.

Hate the gas mileage. Starting a thread about that, and about paint.
