04 RL Telescoping/Tilt steering problem

Hello all, I am new to this forum and the RL so if this is a common problem forgive me and and please just direct me in the proper direction for this problem. Ok as I do not have warranty on this car because it has 79k miles on it I wanted to try and fix this problem on my own so i hope there is help out there for me. The problem is that my tilt will not operate going up or down I can hear a click nois when I try to go up with it but not down. It will on the other hand come out and retract just fine. All and Any help on this would be a god send! Thnx to all

probably a dead motor or the gears have worn down, as i think they are plastic and not metal (like they should be). if you take off the lower dash panel and the steering column cover you should be able to see what exactly is going on

WE complain our cars are too heavy! So they stop using metal. Metal parts are replaced with PLASTIC to address weight, but thats not good enough.....so what gives ? metal or plastic?
