02 rl got code P0505, IAC or timing belt issue?
my 02 acura rl was jump idling tonight. had the car for 5 months now check engine light just went on tonight out of nowhere 1st time ever. ive been getting the scheduled maintenance done lately the only thing to do is change the fluids.
however tonight it was real cold out like 25 degress i got outa work to warm the car up before i left and when i came back to leave it was jump idling. while the car was on and idle it was jumping from 1rpm to the 2 rpm also putting stress on the engine like i was pressing the gas. this happened on my old 98tl and i think it was the timing belt
is this a belt issue?
i turned the car off and on a few times to see if the jump idling went away and it did, however the check engine light is on for good. is there a way i could check my timing belt in my 02 rl? the stupid dealer said he couldnt he was like its either we replace it or do nothing we cant take a look at it....their assholes. so what do u guys think? i bought the car at 95k from a dealer who bought it at the auction and he said the timing belt was changed but who knows you cant trust that right.. thanks for the help..tomorro im gonna take it to autozone to see what the check engine light says.
just got back from autozone, the code that came up was P0505 idle air control system i guess? autozone didn't have it specifically for hondas tho but rather lexus, kia, mazda, domestic, and toyota which was weird so i couldn't even see what the code meant for my car specifically.....so what do you guys think?
p.s if my timing belt is shot wud the car know to turn on the check engine light? tomorro im going to remove the cover to see if it needs repair what should i look for besides simple wear tear and fray?

first make sure the engine coolant if full and bleed air out of the system.
have ur check engine light reset and see if that solves the problem.
if not then you might simply have a bad Idle Air Control Valve. Also fairly common on Hondas. Just make sure you bleed the coolant since air in the cooling system can cause these symptoms as well.

to bleed air out of the system you simply follow the top hose out of the radiator into the engine. Somewhee in that area there will be a 12mm bolt with a nipple/hole. With the engine completely cold start the car an loosen that bolt. If a steady stream comes out then everything is good. If there are bubbles wait untili it turns into a steady stream n close.
turn off engine and double check ur coolant so that it is full.
if that doesn't solve ur lopey idle you might have a bad idle valve.
