Yokohama Avid Ascend far better than HX MXM4s

I replaced my 2011 RDX SH-AWD with Yokohama Avid Ascends. I had one damaged MXM after 8K miles. Wow! What an improvement I handling, noise and ride comfort. And I am averaging 2 mpg better due to the low rolling resistance of the Ascends. I highly recommend them. And they are reasonably priced, too. I did not realize how loud the MXMs were until I replaced them with the Ascends.

Though the Avid Ascends are certainly better than the originals, I would like to caution anyone considering these tires on their wet traction/braking. On our test track I certainly feel they do not provide optimal wet traction and are a downgrade from the TRZ.

I have always been a fan of Yokohama tires. I put a set of Avid TRZ tires on a car in 2006 and have yet to purchase a different tire for any of my cars since. Have yet to do any real research for replacements for my RDX, but it's getting to that time.

While I am a fan of Tire Rack and its testing, I disagree. Last Sunday, I had to do a panic stop in pouring rain from 50 mph to zero on US 50 West near the I-495 Beltway. The Avis Ascends stuck like glue. Like glue - while the ABS was pulsing. I could not image a sticker tire in the wet. Really.

I am certainly glad you were able to come to a safe stop and it is always valuable to have more than one point of view. I just wanted to share my experience in back to back testing against comparable tires of the same category: Bridgestone Turanza Serenity Plus, Michelin Primacy MXV4 and the Continental Pure Contact.

Sonny,

Do you have the results of your winter testing of those four tires?

At this time we do not perform independent testing on the winter performance of the all-season tires we offer.

Thanks for the reply. You may want to remove the "(pending winter test results)" part of the Latest Test Rank results. That made me assume that winter testing could affect the rank.

My apologies, in the last year, one of our tire information specialist started testing the all season tires for winter traction. He just recently returned from his testing trip and the results should be up in the next couple of weeks. Again, my apologies, I was unaware that he had made the trip again.

Hello everyone I'm looking to replace my Yoko avid v4's. I run the stock 18" tires and the v4s is no longer available in the correct size. I have checked tire rack out extensively and read many reviews on the tires available. I run dedicated winter's(michelin latitude x-ices), so I don't care about winter performance. I drive very spirited as they say on tire rack so high speed and stiff side walls are a must. I've been looking at high performance all seasons primarily as dedicated summer tire is not an option either. The two reasons being tread life or lack thereof, and the fact that here in southern B.C. a sudden snow storm can hit at almost anytime of the yr. so a little snow ability might be needed hehe. Anyhow I've kind of narrowed it down to the yoko avid envigor or the parada spec x, and maybe the conti dws. I guess I don't quite get this whole sport truck tire segment, do they ride better or are they just meant to look better than all season tires. Any thoughts on this would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

The two Yokohama tires I have been looking at are the Ascend and the Parada. They are close to the same price the reviews of the Ascend seems to indicate it will last longer but the Parada will be a better wet driving performer. Anybody else compare the two?

I will be buying the Paradas again. I replaced the OEMs with Parada Spec X at 40k. Currently at 85K and still have tread depth of 7. However, I do a lot of highway driving and don't really push it. To put that into perspective, I have YET to throw the maintenance minder code for the front diffs and transmission fluid change. Rear diff fluid changed at ~ 14k and at my last oil change around 78k. I am going to hit 15% this week and, for the 4th consecutive time, assume I will finally get the code to change those 2 fluids?

I'd buy Paradas, again! I went through 2 sets on my RDX and loved them! I can't wait to wear out these HX MXM4's to get them on this ILX.

Hi Sonny,

I need to replace my stock Michelins (97k KM) and I'm considering the Continental Pure Contact. Do you know if you've completed the winter testing for these tires?
