Tire issue - Can I replace just one?!

I have had a slow leak in one of my tires. Auto place just inspected the vehicle and checked out the leak. Found a screw in the tire and said the tire had to be replaced.

I am closing in on 21K miles - I would the tires have some life left to them but can you just change one tire with an AWD vehicle? I thought you couldn't..

Can someone provide some insight.

Thx.

i think in general you should be replacing tires in pairs at the very least. 21K miles is still quite a bit tread use for the other 3.

If the screw wasn't in the sidewall it can be repaired. Be sure to get a plug and a patch if it can. Otherwise, you have to replace both tires.

Yeah, it's in the sidewall and can't be repaired unfortunately.

I did some reading on Tirerack and they recommend all tires have the same tread depth with AWD vehicles and provide a shaving service. The tires have 5/32 left - the Tirerack folks indicate they consider end of life to be 4/32. They said shaving a new tire makes sense when you have 7/32 or more left on the other tires.

So - I think I'm going to replace all of them at this point unless the Tirerack advice is all wet....

You might want to check at your Acura dealer. They often have take off tires from wheel/rim upgrades. Doesn't hurt to give them a call.

I took your advice and called my dealer - they didn't have any used ones but thought there wouldn't be an issue with just getting a new one given is on the rear. They said I might notice some vibration/shimmy when it got rotated to the front.

So, I don't know....

well, what ur dealer should have said was put the new one on and rotate all tires to match, the new tire should go in the front when you get it replaced. you wont have a problem doing just one tire.
