Steering wheel misaligned
Steering wheel misaligned
Hi there,
I just got my RDX and had driven it for about a 100 miles. I like this car very much and am very happy with the purchases.
However, there is one thing in any car that will annoy me infinitely. A misaligned steering wheel. That is what I got. It is not an aligment of the wheels, as the car rides straight after I straighten it on the road. But to straighten it up I need to turn the wheel a few degrees clockwise. I know, few degrees maybe is not a big deal, but I tooks away from me all the pleasure of the driving, as I am constantly thinking about it.
I talked to the service and they said to bring the car for aligment check. I don't think they will find anything in there, as car does not drift sideways. But can you just straighten the steering wheel position without affecting the actual wheels?
Has anyone experienced it? Does anyone knows if that could be fixed nicely? Or do I need to say a "secret" term to the service guy so he would understand what I am talking about? Cause it seems as soon as you say "car does not go straight" they assume it is an aligment issue.
Thanks in advance for advices.

My '08 RDX has the same problem. Of course I didn't notice it until I had actually left the dealer on the day of purchase, but it drives me nuts every day. I'm just waiting until my first service to have it adjusted to be on-center. I guess if that's the only complaint after three months, I really have nothing big to complain about.
I love the car too. It's great in the Ohio snow just like I thought it would be. Only wish the winter weather would end so I could keep it clean (Nighthawk Black).

well..i got mine fixed right after i picked the car up....dont want uneccasary wear on those tires cuz of their screw up. didnt think itd be good holding the wheel to the right 100% of the time on a brand new car and brand new tires breaking in.
Yes, I did not wait too.
It took me two tries to get it finally fixed. First, they blaimend the aligment and there was actually a problem with it, so the fixed it. That is good, but they did not do anything to straighten the steering wheel.
So, I went to them for the second time and actually made the technician to drive the car. With much hesitation he agreed that the steering was of by "just a hair".
Nonetheless, he fixed that and now it is all straight and nice. So, I am happy.

Yeah, I would thought it is a no brainer.
But it took me 3 visits to dealership and 3 test drives with the technician on my last visit to have it finally done right. And this is the most reputable and awarded dealership in our area.
I guess it is something about RDX steering wheels specifically, as it certainly feels much different from Audi A4 that I had before. On RDX if there is a slightiest incline on the road, you need to turn the steering wheel to keep it running straight. And the fact that it is so hard to align it right, make me think that there is something unusual in RDX steering system.
