Speakers COld weather???
Speakers COld weather???
Today, of course, in NYC, windchilllllllllll factor was like -8
it was 15 degrees this morning.
I started my car to warm up, and radio was nothing but static. But it was static from the speakers, like a Big FUZZ noise on all of them.
So i turned off the radio,
switched from my mp3 cd to Xm & FM channels..andit slowly cleared up.
Was this due to the cold weather? Has anyone else had this issue?
Is just seemed excessively weird. I could hear it the most on the Center speaker on the dash.

never heard of that. My speakers just pop upon a cold start.
Next time or if it happens, I'll record the sound and post it up.
It was weird.
Id figure I'd inform you guys, just incase you get the same thing.
I'll keep you all up to date fellow Acuraziner's

Happened to me this morning (so you're not going crazy) heading to work, so I turned it off for a min. until the air was starting to blow - then the speakers "cleared" up...
BTW, it feels like 2F outside right now....
You're definitely not going crazy. This has been happening to me for over a month now and I automatically equated the problem with the cold weather since the mornings when it's bitter cold I have the problem and the mornings when it's just mildly cold I don't. I guess the only cure is to either garage the vehicle or wait until the warm weather comes back. I never had that problem with my 2000 TL but the stereo systems are completely different. If anyone comes up with a solution or if I should address this to my dealer I would be happy to know. Thanks!

I'd say yes & no (I'll explain)....
Yes, because supposedly the RDX is very well insulated for the avg. mid-priced CUV...
No, because electronics do not respond well to severe temps, example: look at any high end speaker disclaimer about running them in 0deg temps, etc...
I'd say this is one of those double edge sword deals (perhaps).

It is -12 (F) and I am getting static on start. I thought you were crazy and I congratulated myself on having a "better" vehicle - and then it happened!! The poor vehicle was NOT happy today. I think the MPG was around 13 and it felt like I was driving through thick mud. Everything seemed difficult. Not a happy car. I was doing short trips at <40 mph, so I don't think it ever loosened up.
I had people in my vehicle when the static started and I quickly shut off the radio, hoping no one noticed. I think they were too busy looking at the NAV screen. Later I turned the radio back on and all was OK. WHEW!

Wow!! Did the dealer pinpoint any particular problem or did they just take your word for it on the static problem? It just seems like the dealer would want to verify the problem and would have to keep my vehicle overnight on an extremely cold night to know what I was talking about. Either way, I will be interested to know if the problem occurs on your new radio. If not, I am all over my dealership about replacing my radio as well. Thanks for heads up!
During my A16 service I had my service dept investigate. All they said the could do is document the problem since they were not able to reporduce it. Of course prior to their conclusion I told them that it had to sit overnight and it had to be under 15 deg.
I get a good minute of static/crackle/popping/fuzz in cold weather too... Usually after the car's been sitting parked overnight and it's close to or below freezing temps.
So MN Matt -- you just walked into the dealership and they told you they were going to replace it under warranty? Anyone know if there's a TSB or something out on this, or if dealers are just replacing "as necessary" when a customer comes in reporting the problem?
