rear compartment door defect?

hey guys,

as i mentioned in my other thread, i had just picked up an rdx with tech just last month. it's been an awesome ride thus far and i love pretty much everything about it except for the terrible fuel economy, lol. i do miss my rsx at times but hearing the turbo spool up makes me say 'rsx what?', haha.

unfortunately, i think i've picked up a lemon in terms of a build quality defect. just recently, i've noticed that the door to the rear compartment is crooked. since the paint color is white, i can clearly see that the door is misaligned; the driver side is higher than the passenger side and it's really noticeable. my question is that has anybody encountered such build quality defect and have you brought it up to the dealership's attention? i'm asking because i don't know if this situation would be something the dealership would rectify. i looked all over the car and there's no scratches or damages that would indicate the rear being hit by any means. i thought i'd just get some of your guys' experience before i call the dealership this week.
thanks!

The dealer may be able to adjust the door. I take it this is the rear hatch you are talking about. If you can take a picture of it and post it up here so we can see it. I can't say I've seen the problem before but if they can't fix it then I would say a replacement would be in order.

Similar problem with rear hatch.

I have a similar problem. This is is misalignment in the rear hatch, it shows clearly in the gaps when the rear hatch is closed. The right side gap is a good 3/4" wide, the left side gap fits snug. I reported this after owning the car for a few months, the dealership approved the workorder to fix it only after the Acura factory rep came and took a look at it. I had to wait for weeks before I had an appointment with the factory rep. Also, they first alluded that there was body work done on the car before I brought it in. I let them know what I felt like...
Anyway, the car is currently in the shop, and I have a 08 TL as a loaner. I'll update you on how it goes.

Hi,
My RDX is back from the dealership, they fixed the gap between the rear hatch and the body a little bit. The door gap is still noticeable, but its better than what it was. I'll post pictures of the job when I get a chance. I'm surprised we already have 3 of us complaining about the rear hatch since this thread was started.

could it be that it's because the rdx is made in the U.S. as opposed to japan? i never had any sort of defects from the factory in my rsx. i find the fit and finish of the rdx short of what acura should be. i can't even leave the window half open because it rattles way too much!

i made an appointment with acura and they'll fix the gap next friday. i'll also post before and after pix of the gap.
