RDX switch key doesn't fold all the way in...

I just picked up an '07 RDX (base model) from the dealership today and I'm loving it so far. A part of me wishes I had gotten one with the tech package, but I'm coming from a 2000 Honda Accord, so I'm pretty stoked about it as it, haha.

One thing I noticed is that the key is pretty beat up (looks like it's been dropped a few times), and when I fold the key in, the tip of the key sticks out of the side of the key fob. I've attached a picture so you can see what I'm talking about. Is there a way to fix this? Tighten something? Reposition something?

Thanks in advance!
Jeff

I think they all do that as the retaining clip weakens over time. My 2007 looks basically just like that.

bah! Alright, thanks guys. There's a lot for me to learn about this car. I knew the Accord top to bottom, front to back, so now it's like learning to walk again, haha.

Take it apart. There is a very tiny philips head screw on the end by the panic button. This is so you can change the battery but also maybe you can retension or tweak it while apart. Mine seats fine when closed.

The only way to fix the issue is to remold the the plastic end on the key. The plastic end on the key is actually a circle with a tread like pattern in the center which the button holds. The treads being plastic, gets easily worn out. I took mine apart awhile back so i really dont recall exactly how it looks like. You'll have to take it apart yourself to see what im talking about.

Its fixable but will definitely take some time and some nice dremel heads.

Hmm...in that case it may not be worth it =/. It's been a long time since I dremel'd something and the sound of whipping out the dremel makes me want to go to sleep, haha.

I'll probably take the key apart and give it a look around to see if I can figure it out.

No Service Bulletins on this yet but i have seen this before. They do have a Service Bulletin for Retractable master keys not locking when fully Extended but nothing for them not closing all the way. SB#10-008. Please keep us posted if you find a solution. Thanks

I had this very same issue, plus also the key would also fold-in without any effort. The service dept/ acknowledged this as a recurring issue. Needless to say they fixed my key at no charge obv. while they fixed my center console & rear lift gate struts.

I made a login just to say that the dremel works as a repair, as long as you can make a small notch in the key ring where the latch engages.

Cheers!
