RDX Seafoam fail?
RDX Seafoam fail?
I was going to post this in the DIY section but I figured it's not the DIY that I have trouble with, but rather the aftermath.
So here's the situation: I bought seafoam today for my 2007 RDX (it's almost 51,000 KM and never been seafoamed. It's also my first time seafoaming a car). This is what I did:

1. Let the car warm up
2. Shut off car so I can first figure out how to get the vacuum off
3. I first got the blue circle side off thinking it's the right one, and partially put it back on before starting up the engine
4. I pull blue side off again and realize it's the wrong end, and the engine shuts off
5. I put blue side back on properly and loosen the red end so I can take it off easily
6. I startup engine and pull red end out, and engine dies
7. I decided to startup engine with vacuum unplugged
8. This time engine didn't die and I slowly dipped the end of the vacuum into 1/3 of seafoam slowly
9. The engine jerks on every sip and I don't know if it's because I have the head under the hood or what but it's pretty loud and I was s*** scared
10. Quite a lot of smoke begin coming out of exhaust while I am doing this
11. I finish the brake booster and shut off engine and plug it back on properly
12. I fill 1/3 in fuel tank and 1/3 in engine oil
13. I waited 20 minutes about
14. I startup car and there is the "Check Emission System" warming
15. I keep engine steady at about 2000rpm for a while but there really wasn't much smoke
16. I rev it up to 5000rpm a couple times and still very very little smoke
17. I took a 15km (about) drive and floored it couple times and what not
So first of all, my friend says the car didn't have much smoke because the seafoam might've burned WHILE being sucked into the vacuum, and the seafoam in the fuel/oil won't really make much smoke
Second problem is the Emission warning. I looked through the forum and there's a lot of this kind of problems with other models due to the fuel cap not tight enough so I recapped the fuel cap and made like 20 clicks just to be sure and the warning is still there. Some people say it won't go away right away but rather take a couple of drives so I am going to see tomorrow.
Until then, anybody else have similar problems as me and know any other possibility of the Emission warning? The fuel cap does make sense since I did have to take it off and put it back on but I am just scared that's all.
Thank you all in advanced.

Ive used seafoam before, but never in my RDX. My ECU went out a month or so ago (dealer replaced under goodwill) and I got every warning message possible, including the check emission system.
I'd say drive it around and see if it clears up...

Thanks. I am also reading that it is a common problem after seafoam even with other brands/models possibly due to all the smoke messing up the sensors. Apparently unplugging the battery (+) for about a minute or so will reset it and will make it go away. Anyone have any idea on this?

Interesting thing I will say, is that regular Seafoam in my Mini didn't smoke like it does in the RDX. The first and only time I have done it on my RDX it is was a big ol smoke generator. Is it really burning off carbon or is it the Seafoam itself causing the smoke? Why would it smoke in one vehicle but not the other?
And like Vividsi said, "what kind of cover is that?" 2007 different from other years? It's not nearly as large as my 2008.

SAVE YOUR MONEY
Did my first Seafoam the other day at 125K miles. I poured 5 1oz cups with Seafoam and allowed the brake booster vacuum suck each in slowly while a friend kept the car at 2000rpm. Each cup she kicked and wanted to stall but got them all in. Let the car sit for about 30 minutes as we watched the Masters playoff and then fired her up. Juiced her to 3500rpm and to our surprise very little smoke although there was some but not what I have seen on in the videos. I did not do the oil but did pour a bottle into the fuel. Probably do oil in the next few days. Overall, the idle seems smoother and appears to have a small increase in mpg with maybe a little more pickup.
Octane does not clean the engine.
The octane content establishes the flash temperature of the gasoline. High compression engines, such as the K23A1 require a higher flash temperature to prevent early ignition and 91 octane is correct for the application.
In the RDX, 93 octane resists flashing at the correct time and causes the computer to alter spark timing to make it function. There is no benefit.
All grades of gasiline contain detergents which clean the engine deposits. The best thing you can do to keep your engine clean is buy the correct grade from a Top Tier gasoline supplier.

Glad I read this!
I used Seafoam as a gasoline additive in my motorcycle for years and it kept the engine running clean. Was thinking about this for my new RDX and now doesn't seem like such a great idea!
