RDX Reliability and Extended Wty

I just purchased a 2011 RDX SH-AWD (no-tech) and trying to get a feel for cost-benefit ratio of an extended wty (7yr/70k). My annual mileage will approx 5-8K miles.

Any feedback on known mechanical issues (turbo, SH-AWD, etc) for older RDX models is much appreciated.

Cheers!

By my calculation, you'll run out of warranty between 35-56K miles at seven years...not cost effective in my estimation. The other factor to consider is this is a Honda product with better than average reliability so less need for extended warranty...at least I hope so. We have a 2010 RDX with 10K miles with no issues.

I have a new 2011, non-tech, as well and went through the same decisions process - decided against it for the above reason, as well as I'll be sick of it after 5 years and want something else anyway. Plus the RDX has been out in it's current form for a few years now, so most of the bugs have already been worked out.

I bought a 2011 RDX a few months ago (tech). Because of my mileage and the tech on the car, I decided to get the extended warranty. I also just came out of a 2004 TSX, which was a first year model and had a few problems, so I decided I didn't want to take a chance with this one. However, with your low miles and non-tech model, I think you'll be ok without it.

hi, i know you love your tsx (but you moved to an rdx right?). we're considering tsx as a 2nd car, would you suggest it or would a honda accord coupe do the trick?

im also trying to evaluate the 2012 civic (and or cr-v). my fear is that, as with new models/redesigns, quite a few kinks still need to be worked out. hence the tsx seems to have been longer on the market and potentially less bugs. consumer reports brought it's reliability (tsx) lower recently though due to brake issues (which ive read here in the forum). what are your thoughts on rdx/tsx experience? is the tsx really an rdx in a sedan version in terms of feel/performance/handling over the long term (eg. not just test drive) and what about it's reliability/warranty requirements?

thanks

I actually own an RDX and my wife a TSX, and although I love both cars, I certainly would not consider the TSX an RDX sedan. The RDX performance wise if far superior, and I love the enterior, ride (SH-AWD).
Don't get me wrong I owned an Accord prior to the TSX/ RDX and would suggest that the TSX is a far superior package. The TSX has significantly improved road noise reduction, and the TSX 4 cylinder, in my opinion is a wonderfully tuned engine, I love running it through the gears.

I hope this is somewhat helpful.

thanks dude. i would have thought it was "comparable" as rdx was heavier and had similar engine with the tsx (but no turbo for tsx obviously, but then lighter too). seems like rdx is still better then. hmmm. thought the accord coupe would fit the bill but i will drive both hard on a test drive to see better. after all both accord coupe (4 cyl) and tsx 4 (not considering the 6) seem to fit my 2nd car bill and are available already now.

I also traded a '04 TSX for my '11 RDX, no comparison. And our '09 TSX/Tech is great to drive but certainly not a RDX sedan. I prefer driving the RDX although maybe if the TSX had the 6 cyl. it might be a different story.

Just realized I can't edit my prior post, I was going to add that most "experts" say extended warranties aren't a good investment in most cases. A couple of links:
