Question RDX 2008 Brake Rattle Noise

So friends here is my story:
Just 2 days ago I purchased a Certified pre-owned RDX Tech 2008 with about 17,600 miles on it. I had to go out of town to buy it, about 450 miles away.

So on my way home, I start noticing this rattling type of noise coming the brakes (probably front I guess), with a slight vibration. The interesting thing is the rattle noise does not occur every time, but does occur a lot.

Kinda put a wet blanket on my excitement. Called the Acura dealer this morning and he said he will have to take a look to see what it is.

Oh well, folks, have any of you encountered this problem with an RDX? Is this a known issue? What does it take to get it resolved?

Thanks for all the input.

I have the same noise from my front brakes. It almost sounds like a grinding or a problem with the brake assist.

I made an appointment and brought it in to Acura. The mechanic took it for a test ride with me and he said it was coming from the rear. I disagreed with him. They ended up turning my rear rotors for a mere $280. Since the noise is transcient, I got the car back and it wasn't making noise, so I figured it was fixed. Now it's doing it worse than ever and I'm out $280 for a repair that should have cost no more than $100 at a Carx. I also had them check out some rattles in my front tweeter grilles, but they didn't fix those either... said that they put adhesive in, but I bet they didn't even remove the things. This is the third Acura service dept in the Chicago area that I've had issues with. I guess I'm going to have to learn how to fix the thing myself.

Wouldn't this problem be under warranty? Why did you have to pay $280?

The service guy told me that brakes aren't covered under the warranty. My brother had also told me that brakes aren't covered, so I just assumed that I'd have to pay out of pocket. Needless to say, I'm pretty perturbed.

I've never had much luck in having Acura repairing anything under warranty. I read that people have them repair service bulletin issues, but I can't imagine how they are able to swing it. I print out the bulletins and bring them in and they flatly deny that they exist. This must be the company line.

I think I'm experiencing the same problem. I've heard it on and off for almost two years but thought it'll be more persistent so I can take it to the dealer to check it out. My warranty is about to be up so I'm forced to take it to the dealer to check out. I'll report back later what they say. There's another post detailing someone else who apparently had a bigger problem with this.

NewRDX, you are calling it a "rattle" rather than grinding.

Are you sure it's coming from the brakes? Could you describe it more? Does it occur when the brakes are applied or not applied?(Brake rattles usually occur when the brakes are not applied -- grinding occurs when they are applied).

Does it occur over rough road? Is there a pulsation in the brake pedal that matches the noise?

My front brakes have been making a grinding noise almost since I bought it. At a point I thought it needed new pads and bought a set from Acura, they were like new.

Not sure what makes that noise.
