P0234 Overboost problem

Hello folks,

I have this problem with my RDX. Code: P0234. I replaced the eye bolt, and verify the actuator and the problem is really the wastegate.

Car is running great except when it is in full throttle in full boost that trigger my P0234.

Is there a way to repair the wastegate without removing the turbo? I saw where it is located and wow that wastegate is not in the best spot.

Someone find a way to lubricate or replace the wastegate without removing the turbo?

Let me know,

The actuator on the top of the engine with the eye bolt is often mis-associated with the wastegate, but is actually completely different. The wastegate itself I believe is internal on the turbo, so if it's truly bad you'll need to to pull the turbo. But before that you may try replacing the wastegate control solenoid (and inspect all of the tubing around there to make sure there are no cracks or leaks). The part is fairly cheap, though I am not sure how difficult the reach is...it looks like a pain in the ass. Also, technically different parts based on the mid-cycle refresh so make sure to get the right one if you buy.

I recall another member posted his success “freeing” up the waste gate actuator, the one connected to turbo charger , driver’s side with compressed air . My guess is most drivers never actually experience waste gate working because they don’t drive it like they stole it . At full boost and suddenly off throttle, actuator releases turbo boost with the “blow-off “ Swoosh noise.
I’ll see if I can find his post.

It sounds like you're referring to the recirculation valve and not the wastegate, which performs a completely different function. The wastegate's job is to prevent the turbo from creating too much boost pressure while accelerating/under open throttle. The recirculation valve is designed to release excess pressure in the system when the throttle is closed so that it doesn't try to force its way back through the turbo. Once boost reaches a certain amount, the wastegate opens to allow air to bypass the turbo fan, to keep boost at the desired level. If the gate cannot bleed off this pressure, you'll have too much boost and risk damage to all kinds of engine components.
