oil change

Hello All,

Very happy with my RDX. I went to the dealership the other day because the indicator came on to saw oil was low 10%. Since its got no other issues I thought that it would be cheap.

At the dealership I was presented with a three option service: Blue, Green, Orange. I was recommented the Green. It cost all of $223 plus labor. I was totally in shock! Its not like I brought them in an old clonker.

Would greatly appreciate the wisdom of those before me: should I always go to the dealership?
What options are there for basic maintenance to be done elsewhere..
I dont want to die on the sword of 'a penny wise and a pound foolish' but over $223 was just outlandish I thought.

Thanks for any guidance! Tol

what service is blue green & orange? That must be a dealer thing....Acuras service goes by letters and numbers, which are indicated on your dashboard when you need service; what is your RDX requiring (ex. A1? A12? etc) What is your present mileage?

Thanks for your response.
1. I got the DDX with 8,500 miles
It has now 13,000 miles

2. a. Blue = completed at 7,500 miles
b. Green = completed at 15,000 and 75,000 miles
includes:
- change oil and filter
- check fluids
- rotate tires; tire pressure, brakes
- check lights, battery

I guess I was wondering why I was just handed these options, on a basically very new car, when all that was showing on the control panel was a "B .." I do not remember exactly the letter and number.
BUT I know that the light is probably programed to go off again when the oil indicator comes on, but I dont want to end up again having to fork out a bucket of $, on what I maintain is car with all relatively new parts.
So, should I just go with the options they advise, or can I go with a Jiffy etc and just have the oil change?

I honestly felt 'taken' by the dealership.
Thanks

Thats right on par with Acuras recommended B service pricing, right around 200-230

Oil change, fluids, rotate, balance, and they may be quoting you rear diff fluid (usually changed out somewhere between 13-15k on the first change, maybe you dont need it yet...it varies per driver

now, you may NOT need a balance, and depending on the last time you rotated your tires (does your steering wheel shake at speed?), and or you might not need a rotation. Check the past vehicle maintence, and save urself some money with the tire balance if they are ok right now and or anything else you may or may not want or need

better way to approach service at the dealer -- know what your car NEEDS before you go in/make the call. Look up the maintence numbers in the book. If you know all u need is an oil change, tell them that. I try to keep my truck like clock work, but sometimes a rotation comes before or after im in for an oil change or you got something done at a shop vs the dealer and already had a certain service performed etcc..so you may not fall perfectly onto Acuras maintenence schedule
