Odd turbo noise

Hey guys, driving my wifes RDX this morning after doing an oil change, Proper oil, proper level.

Whenever I accelerate and boost kicks in I got a whirring type noise, when I let off the accelerator it whooshes down to no noise. I was able to replicate it for several kms.

The whoosh sounds very similar to the quiet normal turbo boost noise, but it was 10 times louder.

This afternoon at lunch it was not present. First I thought maybe the oil needed to be pumped through the system, but it went on for a few kms.

Hoses all look ok, not sure it it was an anomaly or if I should check further ?

without boost there is no noise, in traffic I can accelerate low speeds and as long as boost gauge is 0 there is no noise.

I can replicate it, sounds most like an air compressor hose leaking air. when I let up on the accelerator it sounds like a bus air brake and the noise is gone.

Could be normal, it is my wifes car. The Passat diesel turbo just whistles.....

If all you are experiencing is a loud noise this might be something simple as a broken/cracked hose. In order to get a proper diagnosis you'd need to remove the plastic cover and deeply examine every connection of the system from the turbo back to the intake.

Have you looked under the cover?
