Neutral Safety Switch

Has anyone installed one themselves? Symptoms are randomly not starting until the gear shift lever is moved. No problem with battery or turning over. Only happens once in awhile. I’m guessing this is the problem based on what I’ve read elsewhere for similar cases. Secondly, could this at all be related to the key for the vehicle getting worn or is there a chip in the key for the ignition that could be wonky?

If it was anything in your key fob (like the immobilizer chip), you would see the anti-theft light flashing in your gauge cluster after a failed attempt at a start. If you're not seeing that, it's likely something else.

Well after an attempt this morning, it struggled to try and turn over, and now won’t. Battery is fine. Thinking now it’s the starter

You mentioned not starting until the gear shift lever is moved - not sure how much you are moving it, but you could try and start it while the gear shift is in neutral just to rule out anything related to the gear shift. If it is the starter, sometimes a couple of good knocks/hits with a mallet or something on the starter itself will sometimes help it start. If this is the case, then as you have said, it is likely the starter needing to be replaced. Good luck!

Thanks, I tried that. Now it just clicks. Battery reads 12.62, so probably starter. Must have been failing the past few weeks

Did replacing the starter resolve this issue?
