Moonroof deflector

I was going to buy a moonroof deflector for my 2011 rdx but the dealer told me that all that he has sold have been returned because it increases noise when the moonroof is closed. Can anyone add to this?

I have one for my 2009 RDX and did not notice any additional noise from the RDX tester my wife and I drove before we bought our vehicle.

One benefit of the deflector (naturally): the decreased noise when the moonroof is open. We noticed that even when the moonroof is open in the tilted position, it makes wind noise. However, if one opens the moonroof horizontally a little bit or completely, there is no or less noise.

I have the deflector on my 08 RDX for one year and 5 years on my TSX. I haven't notice any additional noise (I also have a roof rack on the RDX). It does a pretty good job of letting the sun in and keeping the wind out at hwy speeds. It is less noisy using the defector compared to cracking a side window a few inches. I think the OEM tires generate more noise compared to the defector at hwy speeds. My RDX and TSX noise level went down when I changed to Conti DWS for both cars.

You can install the defector yourself to save a little money, it took me about 30 mins to install. Some of the disadvantage with the deflector are:

- Hard to dry after a wash, I have to open the sun roof to dry the deflector from the inside of the RDX after a wash. If not, you will start to get water spots.
- The rubber seal on the front that touches the roof WILL scratch your paint the entire length of the deflector if you have to remove it. Need some type of clear bra strip to protect the paint. Waxing doesn’t help much.

I like it, use it, and will purchase again when I upgrade my vehicles in future.
