I have a 2007 tech package 150000 miles, SH AWD & check engine lights are on. The dealer states Its the turbo, $5500 to replace plus labor. The car runs fine however I need my NY inspection sticker. My machanic can install a $1500 rebuilt turbo purchased online for around
$500. But there is no guarantee the problem will be solved. What else can do or check before going forward with this very expensive repair?

 

what does the CEL code say?

 

the check engine light is a clue or a key. if you scan the code with an OBDII reader; you WILL get the exact code and problem the car is throwing.
with this knowledge, you can then make a better informed decision...

 

I've had the check engine and sh-awd light when my alternator was going out on my 08 RDX with almost 150K on her. Time for a second opinion if your mechanic is just throwing parts at your vehicle. I've taken my Acura's to the dealership for an exact diagnosis and then to a 3rd party to fix for sometimes 1/2 to 2/3 the cost Acura was charging.
