Cannot turn key to OFF position
good morning, I pulled in to work this morning and was unable to push and turn the key to OFF (0). I found a few posts on the subject; however, they are missing some specific information
- P is lighting up on the dash when I move the shifter to park. Locked doors will also unlock
- Original key is stuck (battery is dead in keyfob)
- Driver door lock actuator broke years ago
- I tried backing up and pulling back in, tried going to D/S and back to P, I did a lap around the parking lot
- I moved the steering wheel from left to right while off.. a portion while trying to jiggle the key since the car was off, it took some force to move the wheels.
Is there anything else I am missing?? What I don't know is if the dash switches to "P" and the doors unlock is there another switch that recognizes park?
The key with fob is stuck.. is there anything I can access to disengage?

Have you tried pushing / pulling the key slightly (don't force it). If not the parking mechanism (based on your post it seems to be reading "park" just fine), perhaps the key isn't quite fully inserted?

Yes, I tried pulling and pushing, the key itself never moved; however, the key does push in where it is supposed to (l) just cannot turn it from there.

I think it might be a faulty neutral safety switch

The OP of the post you referenced stated Park was not registering on the dash.. I am not sure if the door locks are linked to the same switch: Car is in Park > unlock doors.
I do hear the "clicks" between gears when the accessories are on and the car starts

The steering wheel moves.. I tried that.. I took apart the plastic surrounding and the key came out when I tapped on the end but I had to get back to work so now it is stuck..
I think it is the cylinder; however, I called the auto locksmith and he said that it is a parking switch but when I shift into Park the dash lights up P and doors unlock unless there is something else that manages those features..
When i turn on my accessories the "D" lights up (along with red P or whatever gear I am in ) can anyone tell me if that is supposed to happen.. when accessories turn on
