Burnt syrupy smell from the engine

I was just wondering if you guys could run down a differential of what you think could be wrong. On occasion, when I have the A/C or fan on, with no vehicles in front or around me, I get this burnt syrupy smell from the A/C. This has been happening on-and-off for the past 2 weeks. I have no clue what fluid in the engine could be causing this smell. I know the smell is originating from the engine because when I roll down the windows, I don't smell it from the surrounding environment. Also, the engine temp is normal and I have about 1800 miles on RDX. Thanks everyone.

Could there possibly be an electrical problem with say a burning wire that could be causing the smell? Just a thought. When you lift the hood of the car while the A/C is on do you smell it coming from a specific area of the enginer?

If you turn off Fresh Air from your A/C do you still smell it?

If yes the smell is not coming from the engine, its inside your A/C blower or something.

Did you just buy the car? I had a burning smell when I first bought it and the dealer said it was the chemical coating they put on the engine parts to protect from corrosion. When this heats up it makes a burning smell. It goes away after a few weeks. If this is not the case, you should get it looked at.
