Blown 08 RDX Motor - Need Advice

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Girlfriends dad has an 08 RDX on lease but out of warranty. He was told today that car has a blown motor thats pretty much a total loss. This was from the dealership.

Anyway, he's in upstate NY and is looking for any help.

The dealership quoted 14k. The cost to buy the car is 18k. The lease is up in a few weeks and when it's done, he either has to buy the car or pay the 14k and just cut his losses.

Anything?

Nope.

He was in a front end collision a few months back; I sort of suspect that this is a residual result of that...

ummm..... find a independent shop, and put a used motor in (or rebuild the current one, depending on exactly what happened to it)

and that is more then likely for a NEW motor too?; a used will probably run in the 4-5k range depending on the price of the engine itself (it's an educated guess, so don't take it to heart, but it will more then likely be ALOT cheaper then the dealer though

as a side note, i blew the motor in the wife's subaru WRX, which got replaced under warrenty, and the final bill only came to like 8-9k, with a whole new longblock installed

very possible, did the vehicle seem to leak oil afterwards?

ok, looking up the price of the motor on car-part.com, maybe the motor is a little more then expected , but you should still be able to come in under HALF of what the dealer qouted though (thinking like 6.5-7.5K)

^First report of a blown RDX motor here on AZ. That accident a few months back is highly suspect. Something smells like a combination of lawyer and backyard mechanics.

i was thinking oil, but overheating could also do it too with a shattered radiator and no coolant, which then screwed the thermostat, then it ran hot, eventually taking the motor out

but in order to tell what really took it out, you would have to see the motor first hand, and it have to be torn apart
