Lightbulb Automatic Headlights (Fix?)

I was a little confused by the fact that my 2008 RDX lacked headlights, but in my common forgetfulness, forgot to turn of my headlights. I noticed that they go off auotmatically after about 30 seconds. I have been leaving my headlights on 24/7 and letting them turn off on their own.

Fix ()or bad idea?!

You still have the day time running lights if you turn off your headlights during the day. I think you have the option to set the time the headlights stay on from the M.I.D. from 0/15/30/60 seconds after you turn the RDX off.

This is for a 2009 RDX, check out step 5:

I don't think it will hurt anything in running the lights 24/7. I think the HID/parking/tail lights only have X amount of hours of life and you might reach X faster compared to only running them when needed (X is different for every vehicle). Another disadvantage might be it takes power to run the extra lights and start the RDX. If your battery is a little weak, you might have a slow or no start.

Thanks Very helpful. All of the reviews I read before I bought the RDX was that it lacked autoheadlights. Obviously they didnt look too far into it lol

I think the default is 15 seconds. You can go into your MID and set it to 0/15/30/60 seconds. The headlights should not stay on for more than 60 seconds unless you have the key in the car and it is turned to the "ON" position.

The link above in my earlier post shows you where on the MID to change it if you need something more/less than 15 seconds.

I have the Tech package and they do turn off. The only downfall is that its hard to see the dash during the day but settings can fix that, I just havent done it yet.

I just did the setup and it worked great. I'll just turn em off during day driving to save the ballast from premature failure. Neat feature though if you forget to turn them off. I also adjusted the dimmers for the interior lights. Thanks a lot for the help!

I too leave them on 24/7 and set the dash luminosity to max. Been doing that for 2-3 years now with no problems. If anything the bulb/ballast may fail sooner.

any way to do away with the DRLs? In my 8th gen Honda it is as simple as pulling a fuse...same for this?
