07 RDX-fold down button is broken..help ?
Hi guys. I am hoping there is a recall or something on this issue. The left rear seat in my wifes RDX cannot fold down. The mechanism in the button(on top of the seat) is broken. There is no way to get the seat down without ripping open the seat that I know of. Has anyone experienced this problem ? The truck has like 60k so its out of warranty. Unless this is covered in the 100k warranty(doubtful). Was there a recall ? or a TSB ? I could see this costing a ton of dough to fix.

There was a rattle fix for the seat back, however you are the first to present this issue. It is good to have a heads up, but I can't offer a solution.

The rear seat-back lock release handle operates a metal rod that extends down into the seat about 15 cm to the latch mechanism. The rod might be disconnected, or the plastic handle might be broken where the rod attaches to it.
The good news is; a new seat lock mechanism is not very expensive and it's only held by 2 bolts.
The bad news is; replacing the seat lock involves removing the seat-back -- and one of the steps is folding it forward.
OK, so we have to get your seat-back unlocked. First see if you can crawl in behind the seat and work the latch open with a flat screwdriver. (I don't know, my RDX isn't here right now.) If not, try this:
Look down into the seat-back release trim cup and you should see a plastic cover over a screw head.
Unsnap the cover (it's hinged) and remove the screw. Now gently pry up the rear edge of the trim cup to unsnap it and it should come off.
Now you can see down into the latch mechanism. You should be able to see the operating rod. Grab it with some pliers and pull up to release the seat-back. If this works, at least you can fold your seat again. Let us know.
Removing the seat-back and cover to replace the latch is a bit lengthy, but not anything difficult. It's a couple of hinges and trim pieces. (I'm sure it's a nice labor bill.) The object is to get the seat-back cover pulled off to access the 2 bolts in the latch. My RDX isn't here right now to look, but perhaps you could remove the striker plate and pull away just enough of the cover, just at the latch corner to get in there.
Otherwise perhaps we can assist you in removing the seat-back.
