Muffler Replacement

So my muffler got damage and bent in and I was thinking about replacing it with an aftermarket one or just to have it be a straight pipe back since it is connected with a flange. Any suggests on which muffler I should get that would sound good?

Thewrench has a MagnaFlow muffler on his rdx I believe. It's also 3" from the turbo back. No cats or resonators. Sound pretty good.

The rest of my Video to come will be of course with the 3" downpipe and the 3" piping, and Magnaflow muffler. With everything else I got...

Nice! Sounds MUCH better than stock! I hate the screechy sound the stock one makes. I wish we could make it sound like a subaru boxer engine! This coming spring I have a lot of mods planned, I am probably going to go custom for the exhaust.

It's funny, my new setup sounds a bit like that boxers engine.

Get the exhaust redone from the cat. converter back. Get rid of center resonator go straight pipe to muffler. I had installed a Formula Super Z single chamber unbaffled muffler with stock tips. Sounds amazing. Great rumble, nice high RPM rasp. Go to a muffler shop and get this done. Also I have a K&N filter and this combo definately increases performance.

Unequal exhaust manifold runner lengths will give you more the "Subaru" exhaust note.

Ken's sidewinder is a good example.

Personally, I can't stand the sound of a Subaru. They sound like inefficient Harley's with a misfire.

Can you post a video for us? I would really appreciate it. I am for sure going local and custom from a local shop. I want a nice deep rumble, well as deep as a 4 cylinder can get.

Yeah I read about that a while back, it is the unequal length that causes the resonance. The subaru sound isn't the be all end all for 4 cylinders, just that it is really deep sometimes and belies its' 4 cylinder engine size.

I've seen a couple normal inline-4's that sound like Subarus. It's because they were borked and running on 3 cylinders.

My biggest beef with 4 cylinders is that they sound like 4 cylinders. A V6 can be made to sound very mean.

if you want to try to keep the sleeper status keep the oem axle back and just go with new pipe from the turbo back to it. it looks stock cause it is and at
slow tegs power levels it doesn't seem to be a restriction. if you want everyone to know whats up go catless and magnaflow.

the 3 turbo to axle back is significantly louder then stock when your running catless and no resonators. it just looks normal. looks are key when your trying to say nah its just got springs and rims officer its stock i swear.

hey guys,
I recently had my muffler changed, but did not remove the mid muffler and its pretty quiet. If I remove it would the sound be significantly louder? Thanks
