My mechanic laughed at the turbo when viewing the boost on his laptop via flashpro. I wasn't even a 1/4 throttle and it was about 8-10psi... We need a bigger turbo RDX family!! Maybe someone can get a group buy together for a turbo manufacturer to build one for our car?!?!

BigHatch 07-12-2014 10:38 PM

some may be due to the variable turbine inlet too... but still!

KenB350z 07-13-2014 12:05 AM

Yeah, would like that boost to come later in the power band.

KenB350z 07-13-2014 12:05 AM

These are the shoes.

That would be nice it would also help with gas mileage too

SinCity 07-13-2014 12:38 PM

Ken: I may have missed it...but how many miles are on your motor?

KenB350z 07-13-2014 01:10 PM

I have about 111k

1) isn't this how a variable flow turbo supposed to work?
2) who from manufacturers will possibly get involved in a custom turbo development with a possible market of max 50-70 enthusiasts?!
3) even if we get a bigger turbo, how do we fool the variable flow valve actuator? This thing is controlled by the ECU.

exist12 07-13-2014 06:06 PM

The variable flow is essential just a wastegate.

Tomtwtwtw 07-13-2014 08:38 PM

Seems if the proper tables are available for tuners, you can eliminate the variable flow element altogether and slap an externally gated turbo on there. IF

I like the instant boost I wish it would carry further through the rpm range that's my only complaint which is why I'm getting blouch performance turbo to put a bigger wheel on the compressor side of my factory setup. they led me to believe with the supporting fuel and exhaust mods it would be good for between 35-55 horses... the only thing im missing is cams and a fuel pump ( I was told nothing would fit when I was buying my list )

Yeah, I'm just trying to run mid 13's and I'm good. I currently own a bakery with my wife and the RDX is one of the delivery vehicles, so I don't want to do to much to it. Just mid 13's and I'm good.

KenB350z 07-13-2014 09:31 PM

I'm going to try and get a charge pipe made at Humble Performance.

TheWrench116 07-13-2014 10:31 PM

guess some more pics are in order

KenB350z 07-13-2014 10:54 PM

Drove it from OKC to Tulsa :what:

13s should be doable. wrx guys with tdo4l-13t run mid to high 13s.

How much power do you expect to make?

KenB350z 07-13-2014 11:46 PM

Hard to say the Hp numbers, I'm hoping in the 300's.

WRX weighs 300 kgs less than RDX. + manual tranny

TheWrench116 07-14-2014 08:58 AM

rdx 2008 SHawd with nav curb weight 3964 + m F.A. 178 = 2Tons + ...

damn I wish I could pull those numbers for driving around.

shivaswrath 07-14-2014 10:25 AM

that's insane!
And this is with a basic tune?

protoRDX 07-14-2014 11:42 AM

Guys, this is not insane. These are incorrect numbers due to bigger injectors. The ECU calculates avg fuel cons based on the stock injectors bandwidth.
If you check it manually you'll still get same old 20-22-23 mpgs.

AHH!!! Yes, that makes sense. Stupid ECU!

TheWrench116 07-14-2014 01:05 PM

oh ok now I feel better... jeez that's what mine shows too.

bluecarbonfiber 07-14-2014 02:08 PM

hmmm.. well then if thats the case.. i am curious on if the tank was filled prior cause if i do 167 miles with a 50/50 hwy/street driving i would be at or below a half a tank..

All true. He should, theoretically, make more power. His torque should be through the roof at launch. There are plenty of high 13s chevy trucks and suvs with around 300 HP. This won't be easy to do, but a reasonable goal I think. I'm interested to see how it plays out.

I had a full tank before leaving Oklahoma City and that was the end result. I'm sure it will be another story after it's tuned.

thats pretty good then.. whats your avg speed? 65 70?

KenB350z 07-14-2014 04:34 PM

I was traveling 75-80, the average on the tech was 50. probably run a little lean, not sure.

bluecarbonfiber 07-14-2014 05:15 PM

im sure you are pretty lean.. you still havent gunned it yet i am guessing till you get your tune..

your next fill up you should do the actual calculation just to see how close the mpg matches.. im sure its closer to 30.. specially if you did a 150 miles in a quarter of a tank

KenB350z 07-14-2014 05:20 PM

What an awesome day, took the RDX in for a recheck of the valve and got to take the mechanic's 600hp Tundra!

I'll do that next week.

SinCity 07-14-2014 06:47 PM

So the engine is still strong at 111k miles. That is awesome.

TheWrench116 07-14-2014 07:20 PM

I get about 340 out of a tank if I stay out of it but its so hard to keep out of boost when it just screams. I think im going to get a take home car from work so I can get the turbo done. see what ill get out of that. what P# is the in tank pump and was that a pita to install?

Tomtwtwtw 07-14-2014 11:37 PM

I've had mine still read over 3/4 after 150+ miles...gauge goes down slower at first. My first 1/4 might be 150 but my last 1/4 could be under 100. If I recall right on that tank I got a hair over 400 miles before filling up, between 24 and 25 mpg. Keep in mind I'm FWD...even if it's not the indicated 30+, if you can average 25 on a full tank with AWD it's still quite an accomplishment.

TheNewAcura 07-14-2014 11:51 PM

I think it's safe to say everyone here is dying for a tuned dyno run

Give me till tomorrow for updates on the pump, the DW200 looks a bit taller then OEM. Our pump looks more like the DW65c. I'll post as soon as I get back from there.
