Hondata reflash, here I come
I picked up an '08 Tech about 3 weeks ago and removed the ECU last night to send off for the reflash today.
I did some 'before' runs so I can compare with 'after', and will update with those #'s later...
Here are the before #'s:
a) 0-60 8.2 sec
b) 0-90 17.4 sec
Both done when 90F outside, AC off, VSA off, in D.
One thing I forgot to watch was the boost gauge - can someone confirm that on doing a WOT pull thru a gear that the boost gauge goes to max and then settles back to about halfway as the revs max out?

Did you just go from brake to gas to get the 8.2 second 0-60 times?
You might knock 1- 1.5 seconds off your time if you brake with your left foot, gas with the right foot, and let the rpms reach the +2,500 rpm so the boost is ready to kick in when you let your foot off the brake.
The RDX is pretty slow off the line if you don't have any rpms/psi built up. Once you get hondata, you should be around 6.2 seconds to 0-60 (if you use both feet gas/brake method).

I had sent a email for the flashpro and no response.
It is nice that they did offer the reflash but after a few months.
You realize that you want something more and better than just a base map.
Plus with the downpipe, pulley, intake, TMIC and intake - you just need more power like me.
Now I have the Hondata reflash ecu at home collecting dust.

I just used my smartphone's stopwatch function. Left foot on brake, right on gas: gave it some gas (but not sure if revs were at 2500 or not) and then I let of the brake/floored it at the same time. I know it's not the best way to get the fasted times, but didn't really care about that....just wanting to compare the before & after under similar conditions.
I sent the ECU our yesterday via UPS...will let you guys know when I get it back and how she does.

I sent hondata an email asking them about a tune for someone who has the atlp exhaust and no response, I dont think they care about revisiting the RDX, it seems making flashpro for the CRZ is more worth while to them for some reason.

update - I sent the ECU on Monday...they received it on Wednesday...and I have it back in my hands at noon today. Sweet!
Hopefully I'll be able to go out and do the same pulls tonight...I'll be happy with 7.5s to 60, 16.5s to 90, and hoping for +2 mpg overall. Will update later....

Probably because a CR-Z owner with a 6MT is far more likely to be interested than most RDX owners

Thanks Dan. Any estimate to what the gain will be assuming driving on the interstate with cruise set at 75 or 80?

^^ on average about +3 mpg as I always let loose on the hwy. I have an intake and a DP so I love to feel the pull when I am on the hwy. I had the reflash done about 4-6 weeks ago and I installed the DP myself about 1-2 weeks ago. With all 3 mods (intake, reflash and DP) the pull feels so nice you can't help but smile every time you get on the hwy.

So the order from the DP goes; 90 degree bend spacer filled with cat media, defouler packed with cat media, second drilled out defouler then o2 sensor.
I have been doing research and called some performance shops in my area and everyone says basically the same thing, keep it as far away from the air flow as you can. I installed it last night then drove about 40-50 miles and no CEL. It looks like the ECU triggers the o2 sensor to sniff at specific mileage intervals, not sure of the intervals; but when I just had one defouler or no defouler after every 40-50 miles the CEL would appear. So far nothing, this should do the trick, will do routine driving next week and hopefully no CEL.
I will definitely let the you guys know if I get a CEL (let's hope this works) for all of our benefit.

Okay I'll get some elbows, spacers, and a pack of defoulers. I think I can get the same results with some steelwool rather then CAT media. When you say you drilled the defouler,
you did this just so the tip of the seansor sits deeper and then able to screw in?

Yes, I had to drill it out for the o2 sensor to fit; I forgot to add if your o2 bung is mounted in the same location as the factory one, you may need to take off the DP and the MP to get enough clearance to work. PITA but worth it.

Yeah, it definitely feels stronger in the midrange, and I like the higher redline. MPGs are also expected to rise, but I don't have enough data on those yet. I was surprised the performance numbers weren't better, but then again, my method of using my cellphones stopwatch was pretty hokey. I'll have to try manually shifting (to take advantage of the 7200 redline) to see if that helps much. Good mod for the money.

Yes, take it out of "D." Download the free version of aLapRecorderHD so we can see the Vid/time/MPH, etc.

You have to put it on S mode to enjoy the reflash. It saids it on hondata website.
The reflash is good if you are planning just to have a few extra ponies.
I know Hondata can do alot better for us if the flashpro comes out but unfortunately they left us in the dark no matter how many time all of us ask for it.
Most of all their products are good. Just customer service on requests is a whole another topic.

They say money talks let's quit pussy footing around it and get a group bye set up if we say hey we have 3000 set side for a flash pro for our RDX how's about doing something with the platform? It might go someplace. Just a thought...

I wanted to compare apples to apples, so I did before/after both in D. The only part of the reflash not active in D is the increased 7200 rpm redline, but I will definitely try some runs in S mode (but still letting the car shift itself (at the higher redline)) and post up the numbers...
#31
Fastest way I found to shift is to have it bounce off the limiter so that when it engages the next gear its going back up the rev range. It takes practice to time it right but it seems to be the quickest way to get to 60.
#33
S mode has two modes. Automatic S mode: transmission will shift on its own up to 3rd gear (no paddle shifters), and Manual: you shift it yourself with the paddle shifters. He is referring to the former.
#35
Shift into S and do not touch the paddles. S mode will hold the gear and shift at a higher RPM. The caveat is that it will only shift up to 3rd gear. You will need engage manual mode (paddle shifters) if you need to advance the gears (4th and 5th).

Regarding the tune, I really thought you would get better numbers out of it.

I thought the same thing, you had to use the paddles with s mode. even though I hate hondata for not answering my email I still want the reflash becuase its probably the only thing we will ever get out of them. For all I care they can spend all their time making tunes for the odyssey and fit.

Hondata don't reply to e-mails because they don't do the tunes directly with people, we need to go thru dealers (I will send mine to Shawn, he always answers e-mails), hondata is getting tired of people asking questions they already know the answer to, they took care of tuning the 07-12 rdx's, now they're done with it.
