Custom intake

Anyone make their own intake? If so anyone have any recommendations on the maf sensor placement and what bracket would be a good idea? The cpe is no longer being made and k&n isn't my favorite especially for the price, I'm not a fan of k&n.
I have someone who could weld the aluminum for me, but I'mgetting all the parts now and seeing how and what would be good placement. Just don't know if I should keep the maf around the same spot as stock or like Cpe behind the filter.

No direct experience, speaking directly from theory.

1. MAF performance will be best with smooth airflow, in the middle of a straight section would give smoothest entry and exit from the maf proper.
2. Make sure where you put it is compatible with the stock harness to void having to mess with that.

I'm not convinced the intake is that restrictive; do you have a downpipe?

I'm getting 3inch piping it's coming in soon. I got several pieces coming in, straight, 45° and 90° piping. Its not hard to mess with the harness to get it longer or shorter. That doesn't concern me, I'm probably just going to get the maf sensor put on a 6inch pipe so it can be moveable if I needed be, to get the best performance out of it.

Talk to TheWrench116 on here or see his post in the RDX Facebook group. He makes/has made a true cold air intake for the first gen. Keeping the MAF where CP-E puts it or really anywhere in the straight section is fine and then extending the pipe down into the bumper to draw cooler air. Not sure how much difference it really makes in IATs. These things are susceptible to heat soak and high IATs.

That's exactly what I was going to do, put it behind the fog light/ under the battery. I don't know where exactly I'm going go put the maf sensor. Going to take a day and mock it up when I get everything.
I'll contact him and see.
