Cold Air Intake
Cold Air Intake
Hey All,
I got a 2008 Acura RDX Tech. Curious if I get a cold air intake installed, do you think it would void my warranty? I currently have the Acura Care warranty because my car is CPO.
Also, anyone have experience with cold air intakes, and can comment about performance or lack there of.
Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!

If you weight over 250 lbs like me, Acura can void your warranty for breaking the power seat, if they wish. But I would just have my lighter half take it in. That is why you should save the O.E. parts, if you experience any issues with your RDX you can just pull the intake off and put the box back on.
Other than being louder, it seems the HP gains are minimal compared to the price you pay for a cold intake. A lower bang for the buck on your investment $$.
I have a 08 w/ tech and went with a K/N air filter ($35) and did the Hondata reflash ($300+shipping). This got me about +25 hp gain and +30 TQ at the sh-awd wheels with this combination AND a improvement in gas mileage (19.5 combined avg before, 20.8 combined now). I have improved off the line power, stronger mid-range at 30-50 and 50-70, and more top end power. The great thing about the set-up is it looks 100% stock when you pop the hood. I don't have to worry about sucking in engine heat or water with the k/n filter compared to the cold air intake.
I’m holding out for an ice box like they have for the TSX.

I check with Hondata and they advise it was two different ecu.

I THINK the reflash is good for 07-08 RDXs and certain 09 RDXs with the correct ECU part number. I haven't seen on this forum about any 10 or 11 RDX owners reflashing their ECUs, yet. I imagine Hondata is working on reflashing the ECU for 10 and 11 RDXs; no time frame of when it will be available.
I don't know if you can replace your 2011 ECU with a reflashed 07-08 ECU? Hondata sells the ECU replacements for about $900+shipping. Acura went to a new ECU for a reason for mid 2009 to 2011 RDXs; don't know what types of problems you will have going to an older ECU compared to the HP gains.
