Running Boards Installation

Guys,

Has anyone tried to install the running boards themselves? I am thinking to order the running boards from ebay for ~$425 - $450 and install myself. Is this something I could do at home without any heavy duty equipment? Thanks!

I have not done this, but looking at the instructions, I think it will be pretty easy if you are able to lift the car a few feet off the ground. If not, the job could be a real hassle.

Installation is easy with the instructions above. It took all but 15-20 minutes per side and you don't have to jack up the car (I'm 5'6"). You can get the running boards from ebay for 400 shipped.

I have done it myself. Doable but it took me 4 hours with help from a friend. No need to jack up the car, need simple tools.

4 hours and how many beers? That seems like an awfully long time for that install.

I excluded the beer time

Actually to understand the thing takes time and as you go along it takes lesser and lesser time to do the same task again, trust me it can be done faster if i do it again.

just did this myself.. spent my time doing it... took about 2hrs. I did run into 1 minor problem.. ONE of the bolts that was to be used to secure the rear bracket under the car
would not go in.. it was like the actual screw hole inside the car where the bolt would screw into was stripped and causing the bolt to go in at an angle no matter what. I'll get the dealer to put that one in.. otherwise, all is secure.

Do you need to use a torque wrench (to tighten the bolts to 20 lb-ft) - or is a socket wrench fine?

20lb-ft isn't much, so a socket wrench will do fine. Throw in a 3/4 turn after it's hand tight.

Where are folks getting the running boards and how much are you paying for them.

I checked with my local dealer where I purchased the RDX and they want an insane amount for them.

Try eBay, sometimes there are some good deals enough to save a few $$$'s.

I found some Acura dealers o nthe E coast sellnig them for $400 plus about $30 for shipping. Not bad, considering the dealer wants $560 for the runners, PLUS installation, PLUS tax. Yikes.

I ordered mine and will have them this Friday.

Okay, installed mine Friday night, in about a hour or so. Was very easy. Just a bunch of bolts that matched up to holes in the frame. Put the arms together, bolt on the rails and your good to go.

I've done a bunch of installs on my TSX using the factory Acura instructions, so I know what to look for now. That's probably why it only took about a hour or so.
