RDX Thule Roof Box

Even though gas prices suck, airfare and airline security stinks. I am planning family trip and wondered if the 2008 RDX short roof box is a good investment?

My 5 year old will be in a child car seat and wanted enough space for golf clubs, luggage and maybe his bicycle in the back. My dealership is offering a $75 off the retail price on a short box (13 cubic feet) which is $327. Is the short box worth it and is it a good deal?

Thanks.

I investigated the Acura box along with 3rd party boxes. I found the Yakima SpaceCadet on sale online for $247 (I think) and picked it up at local retail location. I liked the orientation of this box a bit better than the acura. It is wider and flatter.

The fit, weatherproofing and security of the box mounted on the stock roof rack was terrific. We just finished our first 1000 mile half of summer trip and was very pleased. Mileage wasn't affected that much, but performance seemed to be a challenge when we went through the Cumberland Pass - not sure how much was the box, the altitude and the 90+ temps but after we descended and the temps came down everything returned to normal.

I had two golf bags, two carry-on bags, and some miscellaneous small items in there. Many hours were spent in the harsh storms in the mid-west this past weekend and not a drop of water got into the box.

Hope that helps.

Thanks, I plan on taking it off after the trip. Is it cumbersome to remove and store or do you leave it in place?

Did you mount this directly to your factory rack, or did you get a new towers and bars that clamp on the side-rails?
