XM problem

I'm hoping there was just something wrong with XM today.

On my drive home (8-9pm eastern time) I got horrible reception the whole way home. This is my normal route home. Wasn't even cloudy. Nothing unusual about the commute.

I've had the RDX for just over one month. That makes this even stranger because I've been impressed with the reception on the RDX (I've had sirius and xm on 3 other cars). My RDX signal never hiccups or cuts off unless I drive into the parking garage at work. Even then, it takes maybe 15 or more seconds to cut off.

But tonight, the whole way home, I was lucky if it would last 15 seconds of continuous music. I tried several channels. They all had trouble. Sometimes it would cut out and not come back for a while. Not surprisingly, it was also very sensitive to objects like trees, overpasses, trucks. I wouldn't be so worried but like I said I've never had the signal cut out before at all while driving. It's been really solid for me.

The other weird thing is it never said No Signal like you would expect it to. I don't know what's causing the problem, is it my car?

Anything I can check on my own before I worry about taking to the dealer?

Thanks.

Yep, XM is having a massive "service degradation" causing exactly what you're reporting. They sent me an email warning about it and I heard it on the news. May be all better by Tues. morning.

I think something is wrong with the XM satellites. I was driving in my 04 NAVI TL today and I noticed I had crappy reception as well. I didn't even go under an overpass, tunnel and I noticed my signal was going bad - no signal. My girl was on her way back home and she noticed the same thing in the RDX. This was around 5pm-6pm pacific time. I thought I was the only one that had this problem. Sounds like an XM problem to me.

Thanks everyone. I thought and hoped it might be some problem beyond me. Glad to hear it. Anyone else reading this now, I got this from their website

Next time I'll check their site first

5/21 Service Degradation

You may be experiencing temporary degraded performance with your XM reception at the present time. XM is aware of the issue and working diligently to resolve it as soon as possible. We anticipate full signal strength will be restored by early Tuesday morning.

Early Tuesday morning in what time zone? What country? It wasn't fixed here on the east coast at 8:30am. I haven't driven in a few days and noticed the problem this morning on my way to work - and worried about my car for the whole drive. Glad to see it's not just me.

It's still a problem here in the east. Must be a bigger issue than they thought originally.

XM Service Update

As many of you know, XM customers have experienced service outages or significantly degraded service since Monday mid-morning, May 21.

We quickly identified the problem and are working hard to return to our normal levels of service. The problem occurred during the loading of software to a critical component of our satellite broadcast system, which resulted in a loss of signal from one of our satellites. We expect normal service to resume midday today (eastern daylight time).

XM apologizes for any inconvenience this has caused. For updates, please go to http://www.xmradio.com.

In the meantime, you can enjoy many of our music channels on XM Radio Online (http://xmro.xmradio.com) if you are close to a computer.

Again, we regret any inconvenience for not having your XM Radio service fully available.

I've been having problems with the online radio too. Which I know makes no sense. I listen to it at work and it has been cutting in and out and two of the channels must be crossed because for one of the ones I was listening to, it is not even close to what their normal type of music is and it doesn't match the display text of what should be playing.

Wow, I love this forum, I can always find answers. I thought it was just me. I noticed the FM stations were fine so it had to be something with XM. I didn't try it this morning. I'm hoping it's back up.

XM Radio Resumes Normal Levels of Service

XM Satellite Radio has resumed normal levels of service for customers who experienced outages or significantly degraded service starting yesterday.

The problem occurred during the loading of software to a critical component of the satellite broadcast system, which resulted in a temporary loss of signal from one of the company’s satellites.

After you turn on your XM radio, please allow five to ten minutes to reacquire the XM signal.

XM apologizes for any inconvenience this has caused.

I was about to call my dealer this morning. I did notice some outage early this morning on the way to work but on the drive home it was working fine again. Thanks for the info.
