Voice Command glitch?
Voice Command glitch?
So we picked up our Pearl White RDX with Tech Package on Saturday. Love the car, drives beautifully.
The voice command thing hasn't worked well from day 1. Saturday when we went to pick it up form the dealership it just wouldn't work, it would say im sorry i diddnt get that (something of that sort) and it keeps doing that.
Mechanics took it in, i guess they turned off the car and back on and it started working.
Today we I go start the car up after it sitting for a day and boom it does the same thing, just for the heck of it i turn off the car and back on and the voice command works fine. MIC is obviosly working fine as when I pair my BT phone and it asks for the name and it tells it back my voice is crystal clear.
Is there a glitch in the software? Whats the latest version people here in Canada have?

Its like its not hearing anything. its not even applying the wrong commands (like sometimes when I say CD on it turns on AC lol) it doesnt even do that it just says im sorry can you please repeat that (something like that)

I had this happen after I had the vehicle for about 3 weeks. It was intermittent but seems to always happen on rainy days. I took it to the dealer and at first they said they coundn't replicate the problem. Before I drove away, I tested it out and it wasn't working. So, I left the car running and grabbed my service guy. Once he verified the condition himself, he decided to replace the entire HFL unit rather than fool around trying to track down an intermittent problem.
As a side note, voice recongnition is much improved if you insert slight pauses between key words and phrases. For example, if I say "find nearest fast food" as I normally would I usually get "driver side temperature 62" or "AM radio preset 2". However, if I add a slight pause "find nearest --- fast food" it gets it every time.

You know, I *thought* I was having problems with my HFL and the Voice Command systems until I really soaked up the idea that both systems are completely unrelated and each has its own set of commands and separate control activators.
When you couple that idea with the fact that Voice Commands are unique to the specific display screen that you happen to be viewing, it helps clear things up a lot. In fact, every time I had problems early on, I would resort to simply clearing the active command by pulling the Voice Command "back" or "cancel" key forward a couple of times, then saying "help". Up comes a list of valid commands for the screen you're on.
Invariably, it was a problem with the most unreliable part of the system -- the operator.

I have found that if I tell customers that if you articulate well the system will recognize what you want. Also make sure you are on the proper screen if you are trying to do a navigation command.

1 - Make sure you are using the correct buttons. You cannot issue a NAVI command when tapping the HFL button and vice versa. NAVI doesn't usually say "PARDON" or "I DIDN GET THAT" - if anything there will be a pause and then nothing will happen. The responses sounds like the HFL. If the OP was trying to issue a NAVI command, it sounds like the wrong voice button was pressed.
-> Tip: Turn on command verification for NAVI in set-up. It will repeat the command that was issued. Its a good way to learn the system.
2 - Not all commands are available at all times for NAVI or HFL. Example: HFL -> You can't just say "STORE *number*" . . . You have to be in the phone book set up menu. Example : NAVI -> "FIND NEAREST FAST FOOD" will not work when the audio screen is displayed.
3 - For either system, be sure to tap the button, release it, and pause for a moment until you hear a beep. If you issue the command before the beep, it will not get the whole command.
4 - Speak in a normal tone and speed. Talking loudly and/or slowly will increase the error rate. At highway speeds with windows/roof open or if its raining hard, the background noise will make command recognition more difficult for the system.
