Test drove today...question about iPod

Hey folks - I test drove the RDX Tech today and want to get people's opinions on the best iPod device for the car. I have a 30GB iPod Video and my wife has the iPhone so I need one that handles both. I don't care if the music or anything shows up on the nav screen. I just want it built into the car so it can play and charge the iPod.

I have read the other postings on here about iPod adapters but when I spoke to my sales rep he said that it is possible for a 3rd party iPod device to void the warranty, and that some Acura dealers wouldn't install it 3rd party devices. Can anyone provide me a little advice as to whether this is true and a way around it so I don't void the warranty. I really liked my sales rep but he wasn't too sure about this.

There is a 12V power outlet in the center console. Get one of these:

http://catalog.belkin.com/IWCatProdu...duct_Id=149006

and plug your iPod/iPhone into it to enable charging and route a 1/8" audio cord from the Belkin charger to the dash plug.

To make things easy, I have an RF remote control for the iPod that I velcro to the dash so do not have to touch the iPod in the console (except to change playlists).

The only way an iPod adapter will void your warranty is if it directly causes the problem.

You can get any of the ipod adapters to do what you want. USA Spec, Neo, Dice, they will all work with your ipod and iphone I believe. I use the neo in my RDX with both ipods and iphone.

Sasair...I'll take a look at the Neo since I have the same iPods and now I know it works. Did you install it yourself, take it to a dealer, or to some shop that did it for you?

I have a place right across the street from where I live that said they can intall something like this for $75 but I'm just thinking it might be safer for an Acura dealer to do it (if they will), obviously it'll cost more.

I did it myself and it was very easy. Just followed the instructions from the Acura MusicLink for the most part.

Oh and I should probably mention that the use with the iPhone isn't perfect, but it does work. I wouldn't use the iphone in the car for music and still use it to make and receive calls at the same time. If I use it for music in the RDX, I disable the phone portion. Most of the time I only use my iPod in the RDX.

Yeah I'd like to do it myself but not sure I have that much faith in me. The Hidden Hitch I know I can do but electronics not so sure.

Once I get the car I guess I'll have a job for my dad. He's an electrical engineer and is also a HAM radio operator and has wired tons of things into his MDX so maybe I'll have him do it....or should I say "we can do it together". Man, I'm 32 and still depending on my dad to fix things for me. When will it ever end???

The kit is entirely plug and play. Its not like you have to do any cutting of wires or soldering or anything like that. Look at the instructions for the musiclink to get an idea.
