Stock Audio System: Details for Upgrade???

Hey everyone,

I'm new here. My wife has an 07 with the Tech package and we're are both sick of the thin sound. No offense to those who are happy with the system...for a stocker, it's pretty good, but as someone who's upgraded pretty much every vehicle I've ever owned, the sound is tinny, thin and underpowered, not to mention the various issues we have had with rear upper speaker rattles, blown speakers, intermittenet speakers...It's just time.

So then, my questions are for those of you have done installs yourselves. I have found the speaker sizes and the stock amp location on this forum but want to know about the amp and the wiring set up, the EQing, and the amp's input signals.

1. Does anyone know if the stock speaker wires are thick enough to tap into and use considering I'm gonna push about 50 RMS to each corner to 2 sets of BA 6.5" components I have out of my old car? I plan on leaving the center channel and sub to run off the stock amp. My wife isn't into increased bass, although i see myself playing with an eventual upgrade in the stock location there.

2. What does the signal coming from the stock deck look like? My 09 Infiniti g37 Bose system has the equalization taking place in the amp.

3. What about the actual input signal connections to the amp? I'm assuming it's like any other stock amp and I'll have to splice into the wires to steal the signal?

4. Does the amp have seperate input signals for the rear doors and rear pillar speakers?

5. If they are separate, are they full range?

Thanks to anyone who may take the time to help me find answers to these questions.

seriously..nobody knows anything? I logged in and laughed at 16 responses to the exact same question minus the real information needed to actually do anything about it...How about this one...does anyone know of any other RDX forums?

how about this - do your own homework if no one has provided the answers that you so adamantly want, or, contribute more than 1 other post so people may actually wana help you out.

as for your actual questions, ive installed many aftermarket stereos, but dont know anything about the system specs in the acura. so go rip your own stuff out and find out.

1. The factory wires should be able to handle a measly 50w rms.

2. The signal going into the amp is low level and is equalized in the head unit.

3. Correct.

4.Yes all speakers are driven separately.

5. Not sure, but i dont think full range since all are separate from the head unit.

BTW this info will cost you $11,537.52.

hey guy, the whole point of posting is to see if somebody knows anything? Anyone who's used a forum knows the search engines in them suck, so I was just double checking. I wasn't trying to be rude in my 2nd comment, I just thought it funny. Look what it took to get somebody to answer...ridiculous. Thanks wspy, although your attitude came through loud and clear. Clearly there are a few guys in here that know that stuff. I've cut the trail for others in many a vehicle in the past, but considering these have been on the road a few years, it's not that crazy to assume somebody already knows this. I stated I'm new and offered some info to another guy the 1st day I was on here. Good luck to all of you in here.

laughing at '16 of the same responses' and asking for another forum speaks for itself. whether you were trying to be 'rude', whatever. good way to start off on the board tho, have fun with your system.

maybe it didnt occur to you to just simply reply to your own thread with a 'bump' rather than what you posted, just maybe.

Maybe Mike, and as I have re-read this al,l I WAS being rude because I came in and posted kindly initially and offered help to others the hour I joined. Maybe this forum expects more before people help you, but that just seems ridiculous to me. You're either here to share information and push the conversation forward or you're not. I don't feel bad about it nor do feel bummed by the responses you all dropped. This is your forum and that's how you do it here, but in the end somebody did have the answers, which was evident all along as I read through all the post in electronics category. Unfortunately it took that to get a response one of the expert types in here. Mike, I thought to bump it but considering there were like 3 posts in 2 weeks, that wasn't really needed now was it.

In the end at least I perpetuated a conversation that it's clear a lot of people were looking for answers to. To me, the purpose of the whole forum thing is to share information and move the conversation forward, which this actually did, however this is where it ends for me...surely happily for some of you. I will go do my system and drop under a $1000 on it and it will be more reliable, cleaner, louder and more enjoyable than stock, which is the goal. And when I get there, there will be no thread to follow to help those other folks looking to upgrade speakers and do a basic system. As before, good luck to the what I'm sure is 90% of the people on here who are just looking to get and offer a little help along the way for others.

whatever man..im not trying to police the forum lol far from it, but my initial reaction to your 'follow up' post was judged from the words themselves, again, u didnt have to do anything but bump it and say ANY LUCK ANYONE ....? we are all here to help eachother, and your reply post was anything but looking for a helping hand. as you ended it yourself looking for another forum.

good luck with the stereo, and another forum. but as most people here (as guests), you can always creep and grab helpful info without contributing.

And what attitude was that Groovi? LOL, I too was trying to be funny!

You know, this whole thing is a classic example of internet forum banter and characteristics thereof.
Because one cannot hear tone of voice or see body language when writing and may not have the skills to do so in written form, sometimes what is written is taken the wrong way! I see it all the time.

Anyways, I think that I can safetly say that we all just want to get along and help each other with the RDX, whatever it may be.

Groovinator, I'm looking forward to seeing your project completed because I also have a system to install but am just too darn lazy to get it started. Must be getting too old or something but I'll get to it eventually. I have all the components needed; sound processor (DQL-8), amp (THA 555 PnP), speakers (focal 165vr), sub (TS-SW 1001S2).
I've come to the conclusion that it is much easier to leave the factory sys intact and use the amplified signal to start with ( most current processors can handle the wattage input). This way you get to keep the factory muting capability when using a paired phone. Its allot easier to install too ( the input low level wires have some sorta shielding as per the wire dia).

Hope this helps

Oh, check out this dudes RDX sys http://www.cardomain.com/ride/3122215
