really need help with navi

I just purchased my 2008 RDX and it did not come with navigation. I would like to know if there is anything out there that I can purchase to have a NAVI unit installed in my car WITHOUT tearing/ customizing the whole center piece console. something that'll look stock...ANY input would be helpful, thank you.

Hi,

I'm looking for an answer to the same question. I am considering buying a new RDX w/o tech package. The premium sound and other gizmos are not of interest to me, though GPS is. The convenience and relative security of an in-dash navigation system also appeals to me, however $3000 is too much to pay for it.

Reading through a few other posts in the past, I gather that the RDX is a particularly difficult vehicle to deal with, when attempting an aftermarket navi install. Is this true, and are there still no compatible units out there, in 2011?

The price difference between a tech and non-tech isn't that much for a used RDX. Vehicle mileage will determine the premium price a lot more than the navi system. I’m with you about not paying for the tech package new. Purchasing a used RDX with the tech package is a better deal. Depending on mileage, there shouldn’t be more than a $0-$1250 difference between the tech/non-tech models of the same year. Because of the limited dash space of the RDX, any aftermarket unit will not look as good as the in-dash system.

Your quick response is appreciated.

I have nothing against used vechicles and have bought them in the past, but this time round I am looking only at new vehicles. Given that, I don't feel that the lower price premium of the tech package alone overrides the other benefits and attractiveness of buying a new vehicle (such as longer warranty, lower mileage and ability to keep it longer, etc).

So is it correct to conclude that no aftermarket units available can be installed by a shop as easily as in other vehicles, even if it doesn't look the same as a factory unit?

I confess that I am annoyed by Acura's design decision to make it this way. This may be the factor that sways me towards the RAV4 instead. A well-equipped RAV4 limited with the V6 engine is very attractive in comparison. I am still tempted by the Acura, otherwise I wouldn't be looking into the nav issue, but I feel that this inane approach of forcing people to buy things they don't want is only alienating potential customers.

Help me see the light and make a case for the Acura .
