Question about voice commands

I'm slogging through the 900 voice commands, but don't see any in the book for stereo volume. Can I set the volume using voice commands? There must be some reason for leaving them out.

I don't know the answer, but using voice commands to set the stereo volume would seem enormously overcomplicated to me.

Really? How would it be different than setting the climate control fan speed?

Think about it. With the radio playing, you could:

A) just press the volume button on the steering wheel

-OR-

B) press the speech button on the steering wheel which mutes the radio, speak the command, hear the command repeated back to you, volume adjusts, then radio comes back on at the volume level you chose (which may not be exactly right since you only get the audible feedback at the end of the whole process).

I would choose option "A" myself!!

Now, some of the voice commands make more sense to use, but I still feel like many of them are setup for the "cool/tech" factor because they involve more steps, or take longer, than just doing it manually. The key decider would be how easy it is to do the manual adjustment versus using voice commands. In the case where the volume adjustment is on the steering wheel and can be used without taking your eyes off the road or hands off the wheel, it seems like a better way to do radio volume. With climate control stuff, the voice commands start to make more sense.

Its just easier with 90% of the commands to just "manually" do it, unless your are stephen hawking.

I personally like "What time is it?"

Its much easier than moving your eye from the road to just below the windshield where the time is and having your optic nerves relay that information to the brain. The ear is much closer to the part of the brain that wants to know the time than the eye so it is way more efficent and I can get to work that much quicker.

i think its unnecessary to voice command the volume.. i mean, if u want to go from volume 10 to 35 (which i do all the time) ... just reach over to the actual volume button and flick it fast.. easily jumps to a higher vol... better then waiting 10-15 seconds with a pause...

personally... i HATE... "go home" ... i mean if i say go home... y cant u just set a route to go home... y does it have to say "would u like to set a blah blah blah to go home?" ... im pretty damn sure that u cant confuse "go home" with any other command...
