Poor homelink range (garage opener)

I have a strange problem with my 2011 RDX. I have programmed the homelink button for my garage. And while parked inside the garage I can open and close the door no problem.

When outside, I can close the door (i.e. nothing between my vehicle and the opener received). But, when outside I cannot open the door. It's as if the RDX transmitter has really poor range.

Using the standalone opener I can open my door from across the street - so I know it's not the receiver/opener. Any idea why the RDX transmit range is so poor - and how to fix?

So for me, I've noticed that the homelink seems very directional. If my car is facing my garage, I can open it from 3-4 houses down. But if I am even backed in to my driveway, it can be hit or miss.

Also, not sure about your garage door opener, but mine has a little wire antenna that comes out of it. I found that adjusting the position of that can make a huge difference for both the homelink as well as a standard remote.

I haven't noticed any issue with vehicle direction (I tried lots of angles)

But I haven't messed with the opener antenna wire. Mine hangs straight down. What orientation did you move your wire?

Every situation varies of course, but I had the best luck pointing it straight forward toward the front of the garage. I don't know what frequency it operates at, but I wonder if nearby wifi or just other physical objects can cause some interference.

I have to admit I didn't think this would work, but, I changed the orientation of the garage door opener antenna (which hung straight down) and taped it to the side of the opener pointing forward (towards the garage door). Now with the horizontal orientation my opener range went from 5 feet to 40 feet!

Hope this helps other Acura owners facing the same!!
