"New" Map installed by Dealer: 1.59.03 20060502
Okay, I was just fiddling with the car some more and on one of the settings it showed my edition of the Navi map is: 1.59.03 20060502
The salesman told me that they had ordered a new Navi CD because it was missing. And then he told me the new CD (DVD?) had been installed.
However, when I see 2006 in a serial number, I think the year 2006, which sure isn't new. And when I see 1.59, and I read here about a 4 series, I figure it is some, ahem, mistake.
What should I do?

Further research shows that 4.56 is the first Nav disk for the RDX Service Bulletin 0518 so I don't have a clue what the 1.59 is.
It actually works decently -- just outdated! The dealer is willng to give me 4.56 (the original for 2007, I think). Should I take that or should I just order 4.81, or should I wait until the new release?

And further, physical research shows that it IS the white 4.56 that is installed. I located the physical disk (accessed from the passenger side of the center console) and it is the new dvd. On the Nav screen it says version 1.59.03. Go figure.
I guess I might as well wait for the new update in the autumn, and use my TomTom or Garmin if I need really good streets.

I purchased the updated disk that was available since fall/2009. I really didn't notice any updates other than the "OK" button does not show up on the Navi warning screen until about 3-5 seconds later.
Waiting once a year and paying $200 bucks a pop really sucks. I would wait until the fall because there might be folks looking to get rid of older disks for half or more off the $200 price.

What was the name of your dealer? I have to remember never to go there. Sounds like they lied to you. I'd be pissed if they said they were ordering me a 'new' DVD and then stuck one in that they had lying around from another customer update.
When I bought my RDX in '06, it had 4.41 (2006 Update) in it, and I convinced the dealer to give me 4.55 - which was the 2007 update. 4.56 looks like an intermediary update. Here's the main release history (from what I can remember):
Version 4.41 (2006 Update, 2005 Map Data)
Version 4.55 (2007 Update, 2006 Map Data, 4.9M POIs)
Version 4.63 (2008 Update, 2007 Map Data, 5.5M POIs)
Version 4.73 (2009 Update, 2008 Map Data, 5.9M POIs)
Version 4.81 (2010 Update, 2009 Map Data, 6.3M POIs)

Actually, I'm happy with my dealer. I think it would have been great PR to give me 4.81, but they did it by the books. My reason for wanting an update is that I want to try the XM traffic while I have my trial. I haven't found a way to get it on this one - 4.56

If this will load my address/contact list, I'll be happy.

Hmmm. XM Traffic has been available since the first version. Not sure why aren't seeing it.

Hmm Catnip, it could be ignorance or that I just don't know how to invoke it. I'm off to Montreat, North Carolina soon, so I'll have a week's break from learning the car. I expected we'd miss the cats, but not the car <g>

There is nothing special to do to use the traffic update - other than not being zoomed in too close or panned out too far. I assume you have confirmed that the area where you live, has live traffic coverage. Evenin the New York City area, we have many roads that are not covered.

1. Press the big button and choose "Display Traffic Incidents"
2. Press the big button and choose "Show Icon On Map" > Icon Options > Traffic
FWIW, the traffic feature is a biiig waste of money. Definitely not worth paying for.

Whether live traffic is worth it or a big waste of money depends on where you live and how you use it. For me, it is worth every penny and more as the main roads I use to and from work have live traffic flow coverage. I use the live traffic flow information every day to plan my route to and from work. And since most of the freeways in the NYC area have the live traffic flow information, I also use it on the weekends whenever we plan a trip into Manhattan. Unfortunately, there are some days when the flow color for almost every highway around here is red.

I aksed for the "trial" for xm travel. I do believe it's probably not worth it for me, but I want to see first hand. And perhaps it'll be something I want when I travel. First, I need to know what it consists of.
Thanks for the info!
