New HID Bulbs
New HID Bulbs
My hid lights on my rdx and mdx are getting dim. Thinking the bulbs need to be replaced. Was looking at the morimoto d2s 5500k. Any suggestions if thats a good hue/brand?
Thanks in advance for input!

Morimoto and Osram seem to be at the top of list for replacements. I tried the Osram Nightbreakers and they looked the same as OEM, returned them. I used Osram Xenarc 66240CBI HIDs in both my 08 RDX and 11 MDX. I like the 5000K to 5500K range because it is whiter light with a hint of blue compared to the 4300k OEM that leans more towards the yellow range. I was able to install on the MDX without removing the bumper. I found it easier on the MDX's driver side just to remove the battery for easy access. I had to remove the bumper for the RDX and had some plastic clips in pretty bad shape I needed to replace. Removing the RDX bumper sounds harder than it really is (four screws and 10-12 plastic clips).
Here is a link I used to remove the RDX front bumper (it is for a 07-09 RDX): https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/...r_BII39553.pdf
I also order this box of assorted plastic clips from Amazon, $23. Came in handy with 4 cars with 7-11 years on them:

Does the wattage matter?
stick with 35W bulbs as the other bulbs are either poor quality or don't matter.. "55w bulbs" are sort of curious because they won't be true 55W unless the ballast powering them were 55W.
The OSRAM I have in my MDX and RDX are 35w versions. Other tools I had on hand for the install for either vehicle was:
- small mirror, hard to see the metal HID clips to make sure they are seated properly
- latex gloves and rubbing alcohol, I cleaned the bulbs to make sure they are clean and stayed clean during install
- flashlight, a little tight and dark for the MDX install
- tools to disconnect and/or remove the battery, better safe than sorry. I remove the battery on the MDX for easier/faster access
- radio/navi codes afterwards
I also had to adjust the aim height of my MDX HIDs because they were too low compared to my TSX and RDX. It is easy to twist during install; but, make sure the long brown or blue grounding wire running the length of the HID bulb is pointed towards the ground for install. It like trying to put a square peg in a round hole if the grounding wire isn't facing down. The HID will seat properly and you can secure the metal clips easier (spent soooo much time figuring that out the first time).

Where did you buy the bulbs? It seems there are a lot of places selling imitations that look like actual Osram bulbs. Saw some complaints on the Amazon page as well. My car is 7 years old with 120k miles - I will probably be looking to replace my bulbs within the next couple years.

Amazon is where I purchased my Osrams. I even did Amazon review with before and after pictures for my MDX (same mrgold35 user name).

Ordered a pair of the Osram's yesterday along with some Weathertech floor mats and both arrive Monday. I can't wait to see if the new bulbs are brighter and how much of a difference I can see in the quality of light.
Thanks so much for the recommendation and honest review on Amazon and the pics of the before and after shots of the bulbs!

I received the bulbs yesterday and went to The OSRAM Trust Program website and I'm happy to report they verified as OSRAM genuine bulbs. I'm going to be adding them to the RDX this weekend when the blazing heat fades here in Richmond, Va.
I also ordered some Weathertech floor mats, the "deep dish" ones for the front so I'll add them as well.
Going to purchasing some for the high beams in the next few weeks to match the 5-6k light look for the bulbs I have. I already added some LED bulbs for the fog lights so all the bulbs should be in a similar kelvin range.
