Navi Software upgrade
Do you guys notice that there will a charge for Navi software upgrade ? I heard it is a couple hundred $ per upgrade (I assume it is annually).

Yes...always has been to my knowledge. It's currently $185, and it's up to you if you want to upgrade every year.
This should not be a surprise. I don't know of any mapping software vendors that allow you free upgrades every year...

I just posted this on another thread (I couldn't find a way to link to a specific post, but the info is germane to this thread too so I'll just copy and quote...)

Towards the end I might come up to a "brand new looking" highway ramp setup and the car would tell me to get on some highway by turning left, but the signs clearly showed that the ramp was now on the right so I did the right thing and let the Nav recover when it found me again. Also, all you got was a 2-state CD for your money so it seemed a lot less worth it.
Now with the RDX you get the entire country on a DVD so the price/utility ratio is better. Also, you get full Zagat ratings and a much larger database of local businesses so there is a lot more data to get stale.
Still, my recommendation would be to just let the disc get stale until you find that the hit rate of current information is much lower than you'd like and then consider upgrading. You might find it takes 3 or 4 years to run into enough out-of-date information to bother.
(Also get Google Local Maps on your cell-phone so you can find businesses much easier with even more current information than an annual DVD would contain. )

You can upgrade each year, but I don't think you will feel the need to. My husband has an 04 TL and we thought we might upgrade every other year, but so far we haven't felt the need at all so far.

acura ownerslink will tell you what's on the upgraded version. It really doesn't seem worth the money as many of the add ons will never be useful to you. It depends on where you live I guess.

Really just depends on if you live in an area that is changing alot around you. not only roads, but POIs. Also they could update software like the trip computer or enhanced graphics or junk like that if you are really into that stuff. I'd probably look to upgrade every 3 years or so if I still have the same vehicle...I need my up-to-date ZAGAT ratings!

or we could wait till a new member comes in with the upgrade and just "check it out" to see if its worth the money for the upgrade... ya know... like a 30 day trial and then just switch back to the one that came with the car or purchase the new version

Will an update DVD be compatible with my vehicle?
Yes. The latest version DVD will work in any Honda or Acura vehicle with white-labeled DVD.
Note: Orange, black, white and turquoise-labeled DVDs are not interchangeable.
