mute radio?

I searched a little and can't find an answer to this. Is there really no way to mute the radio (07 tech pkg.)? Seems silly I have to lower the volume manually when a button would do it for me.

There is a button. It's called "off".

Yeah but "off" would be a pain if you were listening to a CD/DVD since the disc will stop spinning. IS there a way to just mute it?

You can pause a CD/DVD-A by hitting the disc number that is currently playing using the preset buttons. Then hit same button to resume playback.

When I am listening to my ipod through the Neo ipod adapter, I just hit the preset 6 button to mute the ipod. This switches the Neo adapter to its auxilary input which has nothing connected to it in my car. Then it effectively pauses the ipod and mutes any sound. Then I just hit 5 to switch back to the ipod and resume play where it left off.

Many radios with a volume knob do not have a mute button since it is just as easy to turn the knob down fast. Radios that only have buttons for volume up and down more frequently have a mute button. So when listening to the radio, which can't be paused anyway, just a flick of the volume knob mutes the sound.

If it works for you, just pull the voice command button on the steering wheel and say "radio" - if the radio is on, it shuts everything down - just repeat voice command "radio" again when your ready to hear it and it brings everything back up right where it was. basically the same thing but it takes longer than turning it down.

It is a functionality I miss. My Toyota Sienna has a mute button on the steering wheel!

My S2K has a mute button as well. When I was looking at my RDX and asked the sales guy where the mute button for the radio is, he gave me a big, "Huh?" Ha ha ha. I just hit the console radio knob in my RDX.

I just zip the volume down. Most of the time I am using bluetooth so it mutes anyway for the phone.

Buttons cost money. Use the off button, it works just as well for all modes.

beating a thread to death...

I heard that Acura couldn't put a mute button in the RDX because they had already exceeded the DOT/EPA button and knob limit. In fact, my cousin said he heard they had to remove the buttons to lock each door individually just to bring the production model into compliance. -- yup - had plans to lock each door with it's own button, plus one to lock them all at the same time, plus a set on the steering wheel as well - that's what he heard...

There even tougher on imports! Because of the number of buttons and knobs in the RDX, if this car had been made up with more than 50% imported parts --- the entire radio would have had to come out...

he said he knew someone who heard that somewhere. I don't know if it's true, but thank goodness THAT didn't happen!

( too much fun! )
