Making phone calls via bluetooth

Got the 2010 RDX this afternoon and started to play with it.

In regard to the bluetooth and making calls.

I was able to pair the phone, but unable to dial using voice commands.

Do I need to download the phone contacts?

are your voice commands the phone number, or a name in your contacts?

I can just say the entire phone number, it (she) will repeat it and ask what I want to do next. I say "call" and she dials them up.

I have them as name contacts?

In my other bluetooth cars I hit the button and say, "call Joe home" and it confirms and dials.

When I said that last night, call Joe home, the numbers 280 appeared on the dash screen. But that has no relation to the actual number.

Unfortunately, the RDX doesn't truthfully send the voice command to your phone, at least not to my phone. You first have to teach the RDX the name and number to be able to just use a command like “call John’s cell”. I can’t tell you how pissed I was that my son’s Ford entry level car actually sends the commands to his phone, but my luxury car doesn’t. All the car needs to do is act like my $30 Bluetooth head set, but no.

Right now I can’t remember what the procedure is to teach the RDX your list of “call….” numbers. Alternatively, you can download all your phone contacts to the RDX and then call them by hitting the info button and use the big had wheel to search. Once you find what you want, you can then hit call and the RDX will “dialing the number received by the navigation system”. This is not my definition of “hands free”.

Just found this by T2The:
^^ Pretty simple...just say "phonebook" and it will give you the option to add, delete, edit names and numbers...It's also in the user manual under HFL (hands free link)

I'd rather not download all my contacts as they're over 400 and include business contacts.

I'll try again tomorrow to dial directly using the name" call Joe" and see what happens.

Thanks

Man, I would think adding your top 10 numbers to the phone book would be sweet! I'm going to test it out today.

Finally was able to get bluetooth working with both phones. Unfort, the voice commands to voice dial with saying a name really suck. But the main thing is to answer when a call comes in and that works great.

All you need to do is add the number, give it a name, and from there you just say "Call Bob," "Call home," etc. and then confirm. It works like a charm for me.

That would mean downloading the phone book or just saying the number and saving it within the system?

It's all in the manual. I forget the process but just read the manual. It's like Tom-TX says. Just a few simple commands to add names/numbers. I only call like 10 numbers at most so I just added those to my phone book.

Just like Phoward, the Bosox fan says, use the phonebook option, add the names and numbers you want to call the most, and you're good to go. Otherwise, you can use the imported contacts (which show up on the big screen) and you can either simply call, add them to the phonebook or both. Just pay attention to the road. And enjoy MLB on XM
