ipod control problem

I recently purchased a 2008 rdx with tech package, and i believe the previous owner added an ipod adapter. The cord is located in the glove box and the acura logo appears on the ipod screen. I can play music from the ipod and change the tracks using the buttons on the dash as well as the channel button on the steering wheel. On the Nav screen it only says "extension" and the top dash display only shows the track number. The cd buttons 5 & 6 also changes the tracks or it could be changing the album or playlist, i have no clue. I dont know the make of the ipod adapter. The songs play in a random order. Can anyone help me with this. I've tried other newer models of ipods and its the sames story. Sorry i dont have anymore information, but feel free to ask me any questions that could help solve this problem.

thanks

i wanted to be able to see the names through the displays and select playlists...it looks like its just like an auxiliary connection with the benefits of being able to change through tracks with the steering wheel and radio controls. if i disconnect the ipod select a playlist then press play, then connect it back to the rdx it will then play that certain playlist...kind of a hassle
