How difficult is it to replace the ipod cable?

Hi...recently bought an 2007 TL Base with Navigation. I noticed recently that when playing the ipod via the cable that is in the center console, the left channel is extremely low volume, or not there at all. I also noticed that the plastic coating on the cable in the center console is cracked and coming off, so I'm guessing that the cable may be faulty. I have no problem with the left channel on the radio or CD player, so I'm assuming its the cable. What is the level of effort on replacing that cable? I'm no mechanic...any good DIY guides out there for this kind of work?

Thanks,
D
