Hands-Free-Link Phones

can we list what everyone is using and what options they are getting with their HFL? It seems like the HFL website is a bit outdated since i have seen some people already using a KRZR with their HFL but its not listed on the site... im getting ready to upgrade phones and would like one that has a majority of the options listed on the HFL website...

so let me start it off...

i have the HTC (Cingular) 8125
Hands free works great but no signal display or call waiting

thanks for the help!!

ok i went to the TL side of the forum and found a kind of a list, but can one of the admins clean up the list and put it as a sticky so we will have a current list of phones that work with the Hands free link since the website is about 6 months out of date (still doesnt say anything about RAZR but it supports them)

What works on the TL may or may not work on the RDX. All the HFL systems in the different vehicles are different in certain ways.

I have used a RAZR, a KRZR and an e815 in the RDX. All motorola, all verizon, and all work the same way as far as I have noticed. battery and signal strength indicators work, caller ID works, placing and receiving calls works, transferring between handset and HFL works as soon as you hit send before the other party picks up.

it was overall a very good experience... we worked with someone named gab... they are very knowledgable when it comes to the nav system... the most informed out of all other dealerships that we visited.... those lexus and mazda guys were a joke!

right thanks...i've received quotes from a few other dealers. Niello in sac, Oakland and Hopkins in Fairfield but it's nice to see someone that's bought locally and thought it was good. did you get accessories installed as well? My big thing now is to see if dealers will match accessories from Niello Acura. They have most everything at cost plus install. Ends up saving a few hundred bucks.

I use a Moto L6 with mine. It is stubborn on the xfer with HFL...it won't do it 'til AFTER the call is connected. Annoying. I get a voice prompt that says something like, "No call is in progress." And then for some bizarro reason it takes like an extra minute or something for my phone to get the signal out and actually MAKE the call. This is all a good 10 to 15 seconds after I've hit Send.

You may need to keep trying. Sometimes it's a timing issue of when you put your phone is pairing mode when you tell the HFL to look for a bluetooth device. Took me 3 or 4 tries before I got my T-mobile dash to work.

When I paired my TMobile MDA, Once it said it was 'looking for a BT device', I had to run through the paring screens on my MDA myself. The HFL did not do or say anything until I completed the pariing on the MDA. Once the MDA said it was finished, the HFL said that the paring was complete and asked me for a 'name' for the device.

So if the HFL is nto automatically pairing, do it from your phone once the car says it is looking for BT device. Also, make sure your device is 'discoverable'.

i870: no battery life indicator, no signal strength indicator, but otherwise works great so far, despite what the website says.

The T-Mobile MDA does not show the battery/single strength indicators.

But the newer T-Mobile Wing does show those indicators.

Other than that difference, both of these Pocket PC phones work great with the RDX!

Note: info from another thread says that a phone update will give the indicators. I will try this tonight.

I'm using a Samsung Blackjack.

Although when I answer the phone it seems like it takes a good 10 seconds before the caller can hear my voice. Even though the phone shows connected.

Cingular Blackberry 8700c

Signal and Battery strenght do show
caller ID gives phone number (not person's name like the phone does)
Will not transfer until other party picks up
No access to address book (does any phone provide this - does work on the BMWs)

iPods don't do well when dropped so I would be worried about dropping the iPhone. It looks cool in the advertisements but my Wing can do the whole GPS thing, looking up locations nationwide via DirectAccess app, playing MP3s, etc. So does not impress me.

About the only thing the iPhone gives you is to play protected AAC files and access to iTunes. Other than that, a good Pocket PC Phone with WM6 can do the same things.

iPhone is more about the advanced touch screen than the applications. Just like the iPod was more about the interface (and style) than the actual mp3 capability.

Access to the phone's address book is not going to happen unless the RDX software is updated to provide access to it. I do not think the problem is with the phone's BT stack -- I think the issue is that the RDX is not designed to access the phone's address. It is designed to work with its own local address book in order to offer the voice-controlled address book feature.

Has anyone tried pairing the new Apple iPhone? Acura Handsfreelink says they haven't got a phone to test. Says it may not be compatable with Handsfreelink that is why they haven't begun testing. Has anyone heard anything different?

I am posting from it right now. Works great with HFL, even shows signal strength and battery level. It also has a button on screen to transfer to HFL when you start a call from the iPhone. Much better than my Treo 750.

The iPhone doesn't support tethered bluetooth mode yet. Hopefully it will in a later update.

Only problem with the iphone I have found so far is that when I am playing music through the ipod adapter, and a call comes in, I can answer the call fine and the music stops, but when I hang up the phone, the iphone ipod won't resume playback. I have go to the iphone ipod and press play to resume playback. Other than that, it works great pairing with HFL. Guess I'lll stick with the regular ipod for music playback in the car....

I'm using the 1st gen Neo ipod adapter.

I am using the Dice Honda R4 kit and the iPod goes right back to playing after a call. I do get the computer "quacking" sounds if the iPod is paused sometimes.

Gil,

I tried to PM you, but you have PMs disabled. There is another thread in this forum on the Dice R4 kit with text, but it is just an announcement of availability. It would be nice to see some first hand feedback on that thread (I've bumped it up with a reply to increase its visibility...)

I think I need to adjust my iPhone so that it doesn't go to sleep so quickly when the iPod is paused.

Are you hooked up for ipod info on your secondary display and nav screen? If so I'd love to see pics of that....

I am still using the 3 month trial XM, so I am not using text at the moment. I am planning on putting it into DICE mode to see if it is easier to navigate the playlists and artists with the disc buttons.
