Gearshift Lights. Out or nonexistent?
I was surprised there is no light on the RDX Gearshift as my '99 Passat gears lit up clearly, and I believe my old Saabs' (back to 1980) gearshifts lit also. I mean by this that the P R N D all lit up according to which gear I shifted to.
I mentioned on the test drive that it was weird that it didn't light, and my salesman told me to look at the dashboard. Well, I do look at the dash, but I'd also like the shift to show on the console.
I was looking today, and I wondered if there's just a light out that needs to be replaced or if there really is no light available there?
Does your RDX have a light or not?

Heheh. I need it bro! I'm hoping mine are just out or there's a way to turn it on. I can't see the dashboard when I'm backing up (wheel is in the way). Maybe I'll get a feel for it in time. But I'd rather add the visual cues afforded by my previous cars.
There's a little square thing at the back of (closer to the console) the gearshift. What's that for?

Please tell me if YOURs light up
Okay, now I'm confused. Others, please tell me -- do YOURs light up--I mean all of you who read this? I want to know for sure because I want to have the dealer fix it without charge! I need to go in with accurate info. Tx

phineasboggs - the P, N, R, D, S lights next to the gear select lever DO light up. However, each individual one does not light up or show any indication of which "gear" you're in. That is what the salesman was telling you to look at the dashboard for. The dash will indicate (by lighting up P & N in red, and R, D & S in green) which "gear" you've selected. I think in older cars there was actually a red/orange tick mark that moved with the gear select lever to indicate which position it was in.
