DVD Video Ideas

If anybody has any DVD video solutions added or planned for their RDX I'd love to hear what you've come up with. I'd like to add video capability, but not sure the best way to do it and have it look good. The ideal solution would be to have the video show up on the nav screen, but still retain ALL of its normal functions. Another would be to have a sunshade screen on the passenger sunshade. Can't think of anywhere else to have a screen and have it look good.

Actually, I am more interested in being able to take advantage of the sound system with ext DVD player. I am wondering what will happen if I purchase a DVD player with 5.1 surround sound output jack. Does any one have any idea? I saw at least one vendor with 5.1 output capability but how does RDX aux handle this.....

what i was thinking was get a plug and play module and plug it into the headunit... and sacrafice the XM radio, this would allow you to switch between the navi and tv video visuals... then put a dvd player in the center counsel and whenever used plug it into the aux jack we have... and maybe 2 headrest monitors...

Although I mechanically/electronically inclined, I am hesitant to mess with original setup..

That would be nice to be able to pump it through a sound system like that, but the AUX jack isn't going to decode the 5.1 surround sound. There would have to be an input on the back of the head unit for it to work that way. I know there is no standard input for it, and I doubt that there are any leads for it on the wiring harness. So basically you'd have to add your own 5.1 decoder and rewire the speakers which would be a mess. there is plenty of room underneath the nav DVD drive though...

I would recommend you guys check out the TL forum and search for Dom's tvnav2go. It is a box that connects inline with the navigation DVD-ROM to allow an additional video input. A lot of TL people have one including myself. It allows any video source to be viewed on the navigation screen. You just have to figure out how to route the audio into the stereo.

yeah that was me that tried it, and the screen resoultion wasn't very good. the screen's resolution is 480x234. I played the DVD that came with the RDX on there, and it didn't look very good at all. I also hooked a computer up to it, and had a hard time reading any text on the screen because the resolution was so low. Thats what made me disconnect it and go another route.

But if you want to try it, maybe you'll be OK with the resolution. You definitely CAN watch DVD video on the screen if you want to. Just don't expect DVD quality video.

It plugs in from the DRIVERS side, and it is the GNET_RGB_HONDAACURA20.

If anyone wants to buy one that was used for about an hour, I'm not planning on using mine anymore.....

maybe it was some issue with the dvd player? When you connected the computer, did you adjust the resolution on your video cards output so it would match the RDX LCD? Could honda cheapened out and put a lower spec LCD in the RDX? Id imagine it would be the same for all hondas.

How do you match 480 x 234? I've never seen a computer that could match that unless it was a PocketPC....
