DVD-A and track names

Hi,

I have bought 2008 RDX/Tech today and been playing with DVD-A playback. One thing I noticed is that when playing the demo DVD-A disk the track names are not showing in the track list - it's just Track 1, Track 2, Track 3, etc... I have burned a custom DVD-A using DiscWelder Chrome and keyed in the album name and track names, however they are still not showing in the RDX playback screen. Has anyone ever seen the track names or album name displayed during DVD-A playback ? Is it supported at all ?

Thank you,

Aleksey

Thanks for clarification, Neo1738. I wish they supported at least the track names - it's a basic feature of any other DVD-A player I've encountered. The standard also supports things, like pictures, lyrics, even interactive menus... It would be nice to see some of that on the screen

Yes, if you burn a CD, the RDX will show album name & name of each song.

only on the nav screen, not up top near the clock...that is what i was referring to. sorry for the confusion. one nice feature, is that u can burn an mp3 cd, and put them into folders, then when you load the disk, on the nav screen it will show folder names and you can click that to go down a level. kinda cool

Yeah that's kinda cool...but it'd be even better if they displayed the songs according to their ID3 tags. You have to keep the track # in the title then if you want your albums in the proper order. Also, the main audio screen displays an Mp3 CD according to the first folder on the disc (rather than what you labeled the disc)....which surprised me the first time.

None of these are gripes mind you. Just things that I think can be easily fixed if Acura were to invest in updating their firmware...though I don't think they intend to.

It's too bad that DVD-A's do not display the track name. While CDs with CD TEXT do on the NAVI screen, I have yet to find a DVD-A, home made or purchased, that displays any info.

I don't think dvd's in general have a text feature built into their iso construction.

If you've built a dvd or even a dvd-a, you will notice that they dont' have a file for each track, the tracks are lumped into 1 gig chunks and split according to the cue sheet.

This is not true. I have mastered quite a few DVD-A's and know the process well.
DVD-A standard supports track names, multiple text fields for each track (lyrics, composer names, etc.) multiple still images per track, per group and per album, and even rudimentary menu system similar to that of DVD-V but not as advanced. I'm surprised that Acura chose not to implement any of these features in the firmware for their ELS Audio system. At least they should have implemented the displaying of track names. Why implement CD-Text in Audio CD playback and not show track names for DVD-A? Lack of support for ID3 tags in MP3 playback is another strange omission.

ju st got 2012 MDX few months back and begun learning how to build DVD-A with DVD-Audio Solo with all track names. However, MDX onky displays track number on both display and Radio panel. Searching internet and I'm directed here to learn the problem existed back to 2007 or earlier. Obviously, Acura refuses to implement the feature or they don't have engineers to take care of the problems. It's too bad for a big car company to avoid such a small problem.

DVD-A disc created by DVD-A Solo has a data file lists all the track names in it, but Acura ELS system can't read the file to populate track names on the display and radio panel.

Acura needs to wake up or customers will turn away.
