Changing Voice on RDX Tech

Some time ago, one of you mentioned that the voice on the RDX''s navigation system could be changed. Has anyone done this? And, can anyone offer some simple instructions on how I can do it too??

My manual is in my car, so this is off the top of my head. You might try the setup menu. Access it by hitting the setup button next to the screen and scroll through it 'til you see something that looks like it corresponds (like "voice"). I know there's a section in the manuals on it; I recall seeing it. You might look in the indexes, I think it's actually really simple.

Yes, browse through the setup screens. I believe you have to hit the Setup button then tap right on the joystick to get to the extended options. At that point hunt around for it - not every setting I've looked for has been in the place that I thought it would be.

Also beware that both the nav and the hfl can be changed from male to female independently. I think you switch the hfl voice by hitting the hfl button and saying setup or system and then climbing through the hfl menus. (A nit - would have loved to see the hfl menus duplicated on the nav screen...)

I don't have an RDX manual but it should be very similar to the RL

There should be a Set Up button on the lower right center stack that houses the Interface Dial.

Press the Set Up button. One of your choices should be for "Basic Settings" or similar.

Select "Basic Settings" and press the Interface Dial

You should get about 4 choices similar to:
-Keyboard Layout (allows Alpha or QWERTY layout)
-Units (allows use of mile or km)
-Voice Recognition Feedback (allows you to turn voice prompts on or off)
-Voice (allows you to select Female or Male guidance voice)

Of course, the last selection, Voice, is what you are after.

i didn't know we could change the hfl voice too. great. i hated the annoying female voice & changed the nav setting on the first day. i will have to get the hfl changed over too. thanks.

Get this...OK. I followed the instructions (thanks guys for responding) and when nothing was coming up, I went through the manual again (and again).

I finally noticed something under HFL that said the ability to change the voice from female to male was only available in the US.

I'm so burned up about all the little things I find (and other people online find) that are not available in Canada, despite the higher price differential!! All we get in return for all these ommissions is a block heater - hardly seems fair.

Anyways, unless someone in Canada has had some luck with this, I'm contacting Acura to vent (sheesh!!).

I prefer a female voice.

It's changed in the general set up routine. I'll have to go do it to remember the specific directions.

Well one thing that you do get that we don't is a windshield washer fluid low warning. I had one in a Dodge many years ago and found it very handy. Why the hell can't we have THAT one in the US??

I agree with you - it's silly. The decisions seem arbitrary. Are they really trying to tell us that there's a law in the states against windshield washer fluid warnings and one in Canada saying no male voices???? Geez...

The voices probably have to be created regionally - I could see maybe having to go out of their way to create a UK regional male and female voice that is different from their US versions to have the associated accents, but I don't think there is much difference between US and Canada in terms of speaking English.

By any chance, do the Canadian cars come with an English/French customization setting? It may be that the cars are only capable of storing 2 voice "packs"...
